County Offers Free Weather Alert

WATER VALLEY – Yalobusha County residents can sign up for free location-specific severe weather alerts through Code Red, an automated system that calls homes and businesses to notify you of tornadoes, severe thunderstorms or flash floods.
Citizens who sign up for the alert service can receive a phone call on their landline or cell phone or a text with an alert.
Yalobusha County officials are promoting this service after entering an agreement with North Central Planning and Development District and Code Red to provide the weather alerts. The county’s investment in the program is $1,500 annually to make this program available for Yalobushians.
You can sign-up online at ncpdd.org by clicking on the Code Red icon and entering your address, name and phone number. County officials are also working to make the sign-up easily available for older or disabled residents who may not have internet access.
“We know there are a lot of people in the county who are already receiving some type of weather alert on their cell phone or computer through various services,” Chancery Clerk Amy McMinn explained. “But unlike many others, this service will also call your land line with an alert about severe weather and is ideal for our senior citizens.”
For residents who do not have computer access, enrollment forms have been placed at strategic locations across the county including the chancery clerk offices at both courthouses and the libraries in Oakland, Coffeeville and Water Valley, along with the E-911 office in Coffeeville. The forms can be filled out and returned to any of the above offices.
For more information, contact McMinn at (662) 473-2091 or Yalobusha EMA Director Frank Hyde at (662) 675-2556.
