Michael B. Pruett

ASHLAND—Michael B. Pruett, 61, died Friday, December 19, 2014, at his home in Ashland.
Born in Oxford, Mr. Pruett grew up in Water Valley where he also graduated from high school. He worked for many years as a carpenter and then owned a lawn service business. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed deer hunting. Mr. Pruett also enjoyed watching Ole Miss football and basketball. Cooking out on the grill for family and friends was also something that was a pleasure. Mr. Pruett attended Pine Grove Baptist Church in Hickory Flat.
A memorial service was held Friday, December 26, at 12:30 p.m. in the Pine Grove Baptist Church at Hickory Flat. Coleman Funeral Home in Oxford was in charge of local arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila H. Pruett of Ashland; four sons, Michael Pruett, Bradley Pruett, Brandon Hopkins, and Kevin Pruett; two daughters, Melanie Pruett and Angel Pruett; one brother, Kenny Pruett of Oxford; and a sister, Wanda Sue Dickey of Oxford.
His parents, William E. and Mildred D. Pruett, and one brother, Carl Pruett, all preceded him in death.
Memorials may be made to the Pine Grove Baptist Church, Hickory Flat, MS.

Hubert H. Sanders

WATER VALLEY—Hubert H. Sanders, age 83, died Monday, December 29, 2014, at his home in Water Valley.
Born April 7, 1931, in Calhoun City,  Hubert was a son of  the late Hiram and Minnie Keeton Sanders Laughlin.  He served in the United States Air Force, worked for years as plant manager for Big Yank Corporation, then retired as plant manager for Barth Manufacturing Corporation. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, VFW, and played with the Vallie Echoes Band. Hubert was a faithful member of Jumper’s Chapel Methodist Church, and enjoyed serving in the choir as guitarist. He enjoyed music, woodworking and spending time with friends and family. Hubert was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather; his family was his life and he always put them first. He was a kind, generous and wonderful man who touched many lives.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 30, from five until seven p.m. in Seven Oaks Funeral Home at Water Valley. The funeral service will be held at ten o’clock Wednesday, December 31, in the Henry Chapel of the funeral home, with Rev. Fred Eakes and Bro. Joel Jones officiating. Burial will be in Pine Crest Memorial Gardens in Yalobusha County, with Damon Ross, Joey Brunner, Ronnie Snider, Donnie Laughlin, Larry Davis, Steve Ross, Aidan Ross, and Braylee Brunner as pallbearers.
Hubert is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Ross and Vivian (Ronnie) Snider, all of Water Valley; his brother, Donnie (Rachel) Laughlin of Banner; two grandchildren, Dana (Joey) Brunner and Damon (Hope) Ross, all of Water Valley; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Margaret McArthur Sanders.

Katie Turner Sprouse

WATER VALLEY—Katie Turner Sprouse, age 82, died Monday, December 22, 2014, in Yalobusha General Nursing Home at Water Valley.
Born September 28, 1932 in Yalobusha County, Mrs. Sprouse was a daughter of the late John and Ruth Eubanks Turner. Katie was a retired housekeeper for Yalobusha General Hospital in Water Valley and a member of the Red Hats Club. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, canning vegetables and jelly,  fishing, working in her flowers and spending time with her family and friends.
Visitation was held Saturday, December 27, from one until two p.m. in Seven Oaks Funeral Home at Water Valley. The funeral service followed at two o’clock in the afternoon in the Henry Chapel of the funeral home. Burial was in Pine Crest Memorial Gardens in Yalobusha County, with Willie Pullen, Joe Pullen, Kenny Goolsby, Chuck Turner, Ronnie Eubanks, Lee Turner, Jerry Sprouse, and Mike Dunn as pallbearers.
Survivors include two daughters, Patsy (Lester) Smith of Water Valley and Melissa (Richard) Wilhite of Water Valley; three sons, Larry (Marcia) Sprouse of Water Valley, Robert Wayne Sprouse of Taylor, and William Lynn Sprouse of Southaven; her sister, Pearl Dollar, and a brother, Kuron Turner, both of Lepanto, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Robert Sprouse.

Calvin Eugene Watson

MEMPHIS—Calvin Eugene Watson, age 83, died Friday, December 26, 2014, in Baptist Memorial Hospital at Memphis.
Born May 22, 1931 in Abbeville, he was a son of the late Calvin Jackson and Anna Lee Dart Watson. Mr. Watson served in the U.S.Air Force and retired as a supervisor for Rexham Corporation in Memphis. He enjoyed fishing, squirrel hunting, and tending his vegetable garden. Calvin was an active and faithful member of Wells Station Baptist Church, where he formerly served as a deacon. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, who was kind, generous, and loved by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 31, from one until two p.m. in Seven Oaks Funeral Home at Water Valley. The funeral service follows visitation at two o’clock in the Henry Chapel of the funeral home with Bro. Danny Berryhill officiating. Burial will be in Camp Ground Cemetery in Lafayette County, with Jeff Williams, Corey Sain, Jason Welch, Ben Kizer, Valdo Cabera, and Bart Ratliff as pallbearers.
Survivors include his daughter, Deborah (Kenneth) Williams of Memphis; a son, Johnny Dean (Ky) Watson of Oakland,Tenn.; his sister, Janice Vaughn of Water Valley; six grandchildren, Jeff (Beth) Williams, Misty (Brian) Skiarski, Andrea (Corey) Sain, Courtney (Jason) Welch, Collette (Valdo) Cabera, and Darci (Ben) Kizer; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Mary Joan Hendricks Watson.
