Spring Fling Helps Fund JA Projects

By David Howell

WATER VALLEY – The local Junior Auxiliary members are rolling out the red carpet for this weekend’s Spring Fling 2015! The event marks the third year for the spring fling, replacing the former gala and continuing as one of the club’s largest fundraisers. The action gets underway at 6:30 Saturday night at the Yalobusha Country Club for the Hollywood-themed event that includes a walk down the red carpet complete with  flash-wielding members of the paparazzi.

The itinerary includes a silent auction, door prizes, a DJ, refreshments and a cash bar.  The annual Community Inspiration Award will also be presented to a deserving Water Valley citizen.

“This year’s recipient has been very supportive of Junior Auxiliary and the community,” Tatum said. The recipient’s identity remains a secret, a time-honored tradition for the Junior Auxiliary. “But he is a hometown hero,” JA publicity chairman Becky Tatum reports.

Tatum said the bidding on the silent auction will close around 8 p.m. All of the silent auction items are donated and a sampling of these items include a quail hunt in neighboring Tallahatchie County, hunting gear donated by Avery Outdoors, a diaper bag and cosmetics donated by Family Heirloom and Hair Trendz.

The money raised Saturday night will be used to fund the club’s local projects including Project Santa, the annual Easter egg hunt, bingo night at the nursing home and providing school supplies for kids in the community.

“All of our projects are funded directly by the community. Project Santa is our biggest project, typically the club sponsors 75 kids during the holiday season,” Tatum said. The club spends around $100 on each child.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door, from any Junior Auxiliary member, or at J.G.’s or Hair Trendz.

“You can dress up or down with the Hollywood theme,” Tatum said. “Or in between, as long as we have people coming,” she added.
