First Political Rally Is Saturday

VELMA – The first political rally of the season gets underway Saturday at Velma Fire Department on Hwy. 7, south of Water Valley with a fish fry, cake auction and political speaking. Invitations have been sent to all 45 candidates on the county ballot, and the representatives and senators who serve the county.

            Any candidate that wants to speak is welcome,” reported Velma Fire Chief Stewart Spence.  The action gets underway at 10:30 when members of the fire department will start serving fish plates for $8. The department has already taken 167 pre-orders for fish plates and expect to serve over 400 plates at the fundraiser. You do not have to preorder the plates. Donations are also accepted and will support the local fire department.

            An noon the cake auction and political speaking start, with candidates seeking state offices speaking first. Following the state offices, the speakers will go in the order they are listed on the county ballot with the exception of the incumbent, who can speak after the other candidates in the position.

            “We will also have an AirEvac helicopter and crew at the rally for the public to see,” reported Ronnie Stark.
