James Edward Barlow

OXFORD—Rev. James Edward Barlow, age 81, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 25, 2015, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford.

            Born September 15, 1933, in Evergreen, Ala., Rev. Barlow was a son of the late James Franklin and Mary Sowell Barlow. He was a retired contractor, a retired high school English teacher, and a retired pastor. Rev. Barlow was a member of O’Tuckolofa Baptist Church in Water Valley and enjoyed vintage cars, woodworking, reading, and Bible study.

            Visitation was held Thursday, May 28, from 1-2 p.m. in Seven Oaks Funeral Home at Water Valley. The funeral service followed visitation at two o’clock in the chapel of the funeral home, with Bro. Dan Dickerson officiating. A graveside memorial and burial was held Friday, May 29, in the Mobile Memorial Gardens in Mobile, Ala., with Rev. Ricky White officiating. Jared Powell, Zachery Powell, Brock Barlow, Austin Harris, Matt Warren, and Ken Lucas were pallbearers.

            Rev Barlow is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruby Sutherland Barlow of Water Valley; his daughters, Lynda Powell of Satsuma, Ala. and Yvette Harris (Ron) of Golden, Colo.; his son, Warren Keith Barlow (Lisa) of Luling, La.; sisters, Jo Ann Lucas (Lamar) and Martha Dismukes (Robert), all of Alabama; two brothers, Pete Barlow (Judy) and Marvin Barlow, all of Alabama; seven grandchildren, Jared Powell (Windy), Alyssa Harris Warren (Matt), Amber Barlow, Allyson Harris, Brock Barlow, Austin Harris, and Zachery Powell; one great-grandson; and numerous relatives and friends.
