Hervey Receives 15 Year Sentence In 2014 Homicide

Wilson Hervey received a 15 year sentence after shooting Keith Murray Jr. The victim was discovered in the back yard of his girlfriend’s apartment on Charlie Harris Street in Water Valley in the early morning hours of October 19, 2014. Hervey was arrested and taken into custody the following month.

WATER VALLEY – A Yalobusha County man received a 15 year sentence in the Mississippi Depart-ment of Corrections and five years post-release probation after pleading guilty in the October, 2014, fatal shooting of Keith Murray, Jr. 


Wilson Hervey received the sentence during plea day in Circuit Court earlier this month after pleading guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter. Hervey had initially been charged with deliberate design of murder. 


Water Valley Police discovered Murray dead outside his girlfriend’s apartment on Charlie Harris Street in the early morning hours of October 19, 2014. 


Other sentences handed down during plea day include:


• Ethel Woodard was sentenced to three years probation (non-adjudicated) for the crime of Food Stamp Fraud ($7,950) and was permanently disqualified from receiving food stamp benefits.


• Bryan Scott Shelton was sentenced to 10 years probation and 379 days to serve with credit for 379 days served for the crime of aggravated assault.


• Shane Kyle Moss was sentenced to five years in the MDOC and five years post release probation for the crime of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.


• Noah Termayne Fondon was sentenced to five years in the MDOC for the crime of burglary of an automobile.


• Dreva Jabbar Campbell was sentenced to 30 months in the MDOC and 10 years post release probation for the crime of aggravated assault.


•Wayne Ladarius Mit-chell was sentenced to five years probation and 31 days to serve with credit for 31 days served for the crime of burglary of a dwelling.


• Jessica Elaine Leister was sentenced to five years probation and one day to serve with credit for one day served for the crime of burglary of a dwelling.


• Jeffrey Bounds was sentenced to six months (five months suspended) to serve in the Yalobusha County Jail for the crime of simple assault.


• Michael Rockett was sentenced to four years in the MDOC and four years post release probation for the crime of sale of cocaine.


• James Benson was sentenced to five years in the MDOC and three years post release probation for the crime of sale of cocaine.


• Andrae Deangelo Spencer was sentenced to two years, 363 days probation and two days to serve with credit for two days served for the crime of possession of cocaine.


• Jeffery O’Brian Shaw was sentenced to three years in the MDOC and five years post-release probation for the crime of Sale of Cocaine.


• Billy Wayne Cobb was sentenced to five years in the MDOC and 15 years post release probation for the crime of Child Exploitation and was required to register as a sex offender.


• Terry Elizabeth Reeder was sentenced to 4 years probation and 1 day to serve with credit for 1 day served for the crime of uttering forgery.


• Ray E. White was sentenced to five years probation and seven days to serve with credit for seven days served for the crime of burglary of a building other than a dwelling. 


• Isaac Nezzie Benson was sentenced to four years in the MDOC and four years post-release probation for the crime of sale of cocaine as a recidivist.


• Brice Germaine Morgan was sentenced to six months in the MDOC and two years post-release probation for the crime of possession of marijuana with intent to sell.


Cases continued include:


• Donell Jeroid Cooper – charged with felony fleeing, case continued;


• Donell Jeroid Cooper – charged with aggravated domestic violence, case continued;


• Jimmy Joe Tutor – charged with burglary of a dwelling and grand larceny, case continued.


• Regis Mister – charged with embezzlement ($2840.84), case continued;


• Samantha Anderson – charged with introduction of contraband into a correctional facility, case continued;


• Chasity Champion – charged with forged scripts, case continued; and


• Anthony Rockette – charged with sale of cocaine (four counts), case continued.


The circuit clerk’s office also reported a trial scheduled for the Sept. 28 term of court for Donnell Cooper, who is charged with felony fleeing.


Multiple trials are also scheduled the following week, starting October 5. The trials include a civil case filed by Arlene Carothers against the City of Water Valley. The plaintiff is seeking compensatory damages and other relief stemming from an automobile accident in 2012 when she was rear-ended by a city police officer on duty. 


April Lynn Patton and Joseph Brian Patton are also scheduled for trial the week of October 5 in a five-count indictment involving fondling and sexual battery.
