WATER VALLEY – Water Valley School District Superintendent Dr. Michael McInnis announced a leadership change at the high school with the termination of high school principal Justin Geurin on Monday.
“Circumstances have arisen at the Water Valley High School that require a change in administration,” McInnis told the Herald. “Due to this being a personnel issue, I cannot discuss in full detail the rationale behind the change.”
Geurin served as assistant principal at the high school for two years before he was hired as principal at the start of the 2015-16 school year after former principal Glenn Kitchens left the district to take a job at the Lafayette County School District.
The superintendent met with the elementary and high school faculty Monday afternoon to announce the change and reported high school assistant principal Drew Pitcock will serve as interim principal. Kathy True will serve as the interim assistant principal at the high school, shifting her from current duties as assistant principal and testing coordinator at Davidson Elementary School. She has been employed with the district since 2003. Both of the changes were effective Tuesday morning.
Pitcock was hired by the district at the start of the school year and comes from the Grenada School District. Pitcock previously served in the military and in law enforcement before transitioning into education as a school resource officer and most recently as a teacher.
McInnis emphasized that academic excellence is the top priority for the school district.
“The faculty and staff at the high school will continue to focus on the matter at hand, that being academic excellence,” McInnis told the Herald.
