WATER VALLEY – City officials authorized a tech-savvy volunteer to research options for the creation of a new city website that could serve as an information hub and provide option for residents to handle routine business including paying utility bills or fines.
The unanimous vote to allow Robert Maze to move forward with the project came during a special meeting held April 29 at City Hall.
“We need something that helps our citizens know where to go when they need different services,” Maze explained. “When I first moved here eight years ago, I kept trying to go to the old electric building to sign up for power.”
Maze said a Google search directed him to the Blount Street building that serves as headquarters for the electric crew instead of City Hall where customers are served.
“We really need something that outlines all of that. That allows us to pay bills online, to pay fines online. What I am asking for is the authority to look into this,” Maze explained.
Maze also shared his credentials, explaining that he works for a major software company and has a work background in project management with financial institutions including – Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Chase and others.
“We certainly need some help” Mayor Tommy Reynolds noted about the offer from Maze.
“All I am asking is to give me the authority to start, we are not signing up for anything,” Maze explained. “To bring options to the board, hopefully by June,” he added.
Alderman-at-Large Herbie Rogers motioned to authorize Maze to start the project as a volunteer worker for the city.
“To compile and evaluate appropriate information for the establishment of a fully-functional website for the City of Water Valley,” Rogers said.
