Hank Edward Anderson

STARKVILLE—Rev. Hank Edward Anderson, 62, entered his eternal home with his Savior on Thursday, September 22, 2016.

He was a loving, devoted husband, daddy, and papaw. Rev. Anderson’s ministerial service spanned 43 years, including a time as pastor of the Water Valley Church of God. During his time serving in ministry, he filled roles as a youth pastor, evangelist, pastor, and served on multiple state boards for the Church of God.  His passion was mentoring young ministers and leading people to salvation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Parniece Anderson.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Bailey Anderson; sons Christopher Anderson (grandchildren, Weston and Mckenna) of Anderson, S.C. and Clint Anderson (wife Melaine, grandchildren, Hunter, Bailey, and Grey) of Mathiston;  daughters, Chanean Anderson Lee (grandchildren Allonna, Seth, and Katelyn) of Anderson, S.C.; and Chelsi Anderson Brasher (husband Brett, grandchildren, Becky Kate, Anderson, and Ansley) of Sturgis; brothers, Mike Anderson (Lisa) of Cabot, Ark., Phil Anderson (Magen) of Tyler, Texas, Steve Anderson (Jean) of Starr, S.C., Douglas Anderson (Gina) of Tyler, Texas, Ken Anderson (Karen) of Bristol, Tenn.; sisters, Pamela Anderson of Honea Path, S.C., Tricia Thomas (Dan) of Nashville, Tenn., Paula McVicker (Mitch)  of Atlanta, Ga.; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces.

The funeral service, arranged by Welch Funeral Home of Starkville, was held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 26, in Starkville Church of God with Rev. Don Hooper officiating. 

Ruth Ann Barkley

WATER VALLEY – Ruth Ann Barkley, 56, of Water Valley  passed away Friday, September 16, 2016. 

Services were held Thursday, September 23, at Forest Hill Funeral Home, Midtown, in Memphis. 

Survivors include one daughter, Cassie Ann Magill, of Como; one brother, Phillip Rawson, of Memphis; three grandchildren, Christian Lynn Burford, of Senatobia,  Daman Lee Splawn of Water Valley and Majesta Summer Dillard of Sardis; and several cousins. Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her parents, L. Stanton Rawson and Quay Rushing Rawson; a son, Joe Lynn Burford, Jr. and ex-husband, Joe Lynn Burford. 

Posey N. Egerson

WATER VALLEY—Posey N. Egerson, age 66, died September 24, 2016, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford. Mr. Egerson was born September 3, 1949.

Visitation was held in Eddie Robinson Funeral  Home at Batesville from 1-6 pm. Saturday, October 1. The funeral service was held Sunday, October 2, at 1 p.m. in the Water Valley Civic Auditorium. Burial was in New Providence Cemetery. He is survived by  his wife, Mary Egerson.

Ronald L. King

BANNER—Ronald L. King, age 66, passed away Sunday morning, October 2, 2016, at  his home in Banner.  

Born January 8, 1950, he was a son of Sarah Newman King and the late Galon W. King. He graduated from the University of Mississippi and was a longtime manager of the Sonic Drive-In in Water Valley. He enjoyed taking care of his cattle on the family farm. Ron was a member of Paris Baptist Church.

Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, October 3, in Seven Oaks Funeral Home. The funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, October 4, in the Henry Chapel of the funeral home with Dr. Gene Cobb, Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Pine Flat Cemetery in Lafayette County.

Survivors include a daughter, Misty Fiew of Water Valley; his mother, Sarah King of Banner; a sister, Brenda Cobb (Gene) of Sanford, N.C.; three step sons, Mike Hodge (Denise) of Long Beach, Tim Hodge (Angie) and Jeff Hodge (Wendy), both of Water Valley; two grandchildren, Bryce and Tristan Fiew; and 11 step grandchildren.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a step daughter, Amy Wilbourn.

James Larson 

OXFORD—James Larson, age 83, died Sunday, October 2, 2016, in the Mississippi State Veterans Home at Oxford.

   Born August 10, 1933, in Water Valley, he was a son of the late James E. and Janie Hunt Larson. James attended Northwest Mississippi Community College  where he played football in 1953 and 1954. While attending the University of Mississippi he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and earned his degree in Business Administration. 

After completing his service in the United Sates Army, James worked in the grocery business for over 60 years as an owner and operator of Larson’s Grocery Stores. He was an avid Ole Miss Rebel fan and member of the UMAA, and never missed a game until his health declined. James was an avid golfer and part of the winning team of the 1984 Danny Thomas Memphis Classic with professional golfer, Jerry Pate. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Water Valley where he served as a member of the Administrative Board. He was also a past president of the Yalobusha Country Club and a member of the Board of Directors at Yalobusha General Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, in Seven Oaks Funeral Home at Water Valley. The funeral service will be held a 11 a.m. Thursday, October 6, in the Henry Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Barry Dickerson and Rev. Allen McGraw officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Water Valley.

Margaret Ann Schmitz 

WATER VALLEY—Margaret Ann Schmitz, age 85, of Water Valley died Saturday, October 1, 2016, at her home.

Born in Coffeeville on May 31, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Leon and Birdie Elizabeth Gardner Jones. Ann was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Water Valley and was a member of the Pink Ladies Volunteer Group at Yalobusha Nursing Home. She drove a school bus many years and also worked in the school cafeteria. She enjoyed gardening and cooking wonderful meals of her family.

Visitation was held Monday, October 3, from 5 until 7 p.m. in Seven Oaks Funeral Home. The funeral service was held Tuesday, October 4, at 2 p.m.  in the Henry Chapel of the funeral home with Bro. Bill Forsyth and Bro. Ronald Jenkins officiating. Burial followed in Elam Cemetery at Coffeeville, with Sterling Schmitz, Donnie Schmitz, Allen Schmitz, Brian Schmitz, Gregory Schmitz, Joshua Snider, Jackson Schmitz, and Samuel Schmitz as pallbearers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,  Whittaker Schmitz; two sisters, Maxine Tharp and Elizabeth Jones; and one brother, Ralph Jones.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane Schmitz Snider (Gary) of Water Valley; four sons, Jerry Schmitz of Pontotoc, Calvin Schmitz (Joyce) of Water Valley, Barry Schmitz of Houston, and Michael Schmitz (Gina) of Water Valley; two brothers, Raymond Jones of Grenada and Harold Jones of Jefferson City, Missouri; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

David McCracken Stone

WATER VALLEY—David McCracken Stone, age 62, of Water Valley died Sunday, September 25, 2016, at his home in Water Valley.

Born December 7, 1953, in Water Valley, he was a son of the late Elmer Lee Stone and Maifred McCracken Stone.

Services will be held at a later date.

David was a retied conductor for the Canadian Nation Railway Company and enjoyed the Memphis Blues Society.

He is survived by three sisters, Dianne Stone of Water Valley, Janice Barrett (Mike), and Joyce Thomas (Joe) of Southaven.
