Elizabeth Vivian Brite Bowman

COFFEEVILLE—Elizabeth Vivian Brite Bowman, 72, died Thursday, October 20, 2016, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford.

  The funeral service was held Monday, October 24, at 2 p.m. in First United Methodist Church, Coffeeville, with Rev. Stacy Douglas officiating. Burial followed in Clear Creek Cemetery at Oxford. Visitation was held from noon until service time at the church. Waller Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

  Born in Oxford, Mrs. Bowman was a daughter of he late Jerrold Jefferson and Delia Odessa Childress Brite. She had worked as a receptionist at the U.S. Forestry Service and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Coffeeville. She found great enjoyment in decorating cakes for others.

  Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Leroy Bowman of Coffeeville;  daughters, Tammy Brite Firman of Woodberry Forrest, Virginia, Mary Brite Sellers of Oxford, and Lyn Jackson of Tupelo; sons, Gregory Malone of Batesville, Richard Malone of Water Valley, and David Bowman of Batesville; twelve grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

  Memorials in Mrs. Bowman’s memory may be made to Clear Creek Cemetery Fund, 46 CR 313, Oxford, MS 38655.

Dovard L. Russell

BATESVILLE—Dovard L. Russell, 85, died Wednesday, October 19, 2016, in Golden Living Center at Batesville.

  The funeral service was held Friday, October 21, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles Lipe officiating. Burial followed in Clear Creek Cemetery. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until service time in the funeral home.

  Mr. Russell was a son of the late Lawrence and Minnie Moore Russell. He was a retired salesman for ADC. He was a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church and he served during the Korean War in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Louise Watson Russell; sisters, Bonnie Depriest and Maxine Rhodes, and brothers, Adrian Russell, Aubrey Russell, and Roger Russell.

Survivors include his daughters, Bonita Gemeinhardt (Kirk) of Sardis and Diana Redding of Oxford; sons, Rev. Charles Leonard Russell (Joyce) of Monticello, Ark. and Ronald Glen Russell of Batesville; sisters, Jimmie Waller of Oxford, Peggy Martin of Southaven, Faye Woodard of Batesville, and Sue Vaughn of Oxford; brothers, “Buddy” Russell of Abbeville and Calvin Russell of Oxford; eight grandchildren; and 11  great-grandchildren.

Shirley Sanders Schmitz

WATER VALLEY—Shirley Sanders Schmitz, age 76, died Thursday, October 20, 2016, at her home in Water Valley.

  Born February 6, 1940, in the Pine Valley Community of Yalobusha County, she was a daughter of the late Ivan and Christine Hunt Sanders. Shirley was retired from Heat Craft, Inc. in Grenada. She was a member of the Water Valley Church of Christ and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

  Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Paul Schmitz of Water Valley; a daughter, Donna Beshires (Tony) of Water Valley; her son, Mitchell Schmitz (Cindy) of Brookhaven; two sisters, Betty Griffin (Jay) of Water Valley and Melba Warren of Memphis; a brother, Danny Sanders (Teresa) of Mantachie; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Sanders and Richard Sanders.

  A memorial service will be held at a later date. Seven Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
