Bobby Dewitt Edwards
PINELLAS PARK, Fla. —Bobby Dewitt Edwards, 76, passed away Friday, April 21, 2017, in Woodside Hospice at Pinellas Park, Fla.
Born in Water Valley, Bobby was a son of the late Thelma and Lee Edwards. He attended Water Valley Schools and graduated from the University of Mississippi with a degree in engineering. He and his family lived in Texas for many years, moving to Florida in 2001. He was a computer programmer and he enjoyed boating and listening to music. He was predeceased by his wife, Linda Wilson.
Survivors include his long-time companion, Lucretia Retzke; a sister, Mary Lee of California; and his son, John Edwards of Texas
At his request, no services were held and his remains were scattered in the Gulf of Mexico.
Lena Toliver Mitchell
WATER VALLEY—Lena Toliver Mitchell, age 67, passed away May 2, 2017, in Baptist Memorial Hospital at Oxford.
Born in Water Valley, Mrs. Mitchell was a daughter of the late John Toliver and Clister Morgan Toliver. She worked at Big Yank and later at North Mississippi Regional Center. Lena was a “people person” and enjoyed being with her family. She was a member of Bayson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.
Visitation was held Friday, May 5, from 5-7 p.m. in Seven Oaks Funeral Home at Water Valley. The funeral service was held Saturday, May 6, at 11 a.m. in Bayson Chapel Church, with Rev. Amos Sims officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Bobby Phillips, Rodney Phillips, Tyrell Gee, Brian Williams, Milton Person and Matthew Person serving as pallbearers. Corey Hill, Robert Buford and Tim Williams were honorary pallbearers.
Lena is survived by her husband of 45 years, Clyde Mitchell of Water Valley; two daughters, Trina Buford (Robert) of Oxford, and Tawanda Mitchell Hill (Corey) of Batesville; a goddaughter, Ardis Amos (Greg) of Grenada; four sisters, Mary Alice Person of Water Valley, Bernice Evans of Cleveland, Ohio, Anne Johnson of Alton, Ill., and Bettye Nelson of Birmingham, Ala.; two brothers, James Toliver and R. V. Toliver, both of Cleveland, Ohio; four grandchildren, Marlando Williams, Mitchell Hill, Laura Mitchell, and Kana Carpenter; and one great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, Lena is preceded in death by two sisters, Rena Toliver and Ola Mae Toliver, and four brothers, Charles Toliver, William Toliver, Hullet Toliver and Willie James Toliver.
Amy Nannette Shipp Sissell
BATESVILLE—Amy Nannette Shipp Sissell, 88, of Batesville, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017, in Providence Assisted Living at Batesville.
Born in Lafayette County on September 8, 1928, Mrs. Sissell was a daughter of the late Nettie Lou Stafford and Clovious Bowen Shipp. She was a member of Mt. Olivet Methodist Church, Friends of the Library and the PanGen Society.
Mrs. Sissell is survived by two daughters, Nancy Parks Sissell Bridges (Gil) and Susan Frances Sissell Riddick (Taylor), and one son, William Shipp Sissell (Denise), all of Batesville; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, William “Bill” Parks Sissell and her parents.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, in the Chapel of Dickins Funeral Home at Batesville. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery at Water Valley. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, in the funeral home.
