Brock McCall Howell

WATER VALLEY—Brock McCall Howell, age 25, died October 11, 2017, in Panola County.


Born in Jackson, December 23, 1991, Brock was a son of Kecia Kunzler Howell and James Mark Howell. He served in the U.S. Army and graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science degree in history. Brock was a real estate appraiser with Howell Realty of Water Valley. He had previously enjoyed being a big game hunting guide with his father in Alaska. He loved the outdoors, Ole Miss football, and was a great friend to all who knew him.


 Visitation was held Saturday, October 14, in Seven Oaks Funeral Home at Water Valley. A celebration of life service followed at 1:30 p.m. in the Henry Chapel of the funeral home with Bro Stoney Moorhead officiating.


Brock is survived by his mother,  Kecia Kunzler Howell of Arkansas; his father, James Mark Howell of Greenway, Ark.; four sisters, Victoria Howell of Arizona, Cora Howell of Arkansas, Mahala Howell of Arizona and Eleasah Howell of Arkansas; two brothers, Nathaniel Howell and Gabriel Howell, both of Arkansas; a significant friend, Yasmine Allen of Stockholm, Sweden; and his grandparents, Keith and Glynnis Kunzler of Chaffee, Mo.


Brock was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Peggy and Hershel Howell.

Bertha Coker McCullar

WATER VALLEY—Bertha Coker McCullar, age 92, died Thursday, October 12, 2017, in Yalobusha General Hospital at Water Valley.


Born January 12, 1925, in Water Valley, she was a daughter of  the late Vester Rushing and Lucy McCain Rushing. Before her health declined, Bertha was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Water Valley. Always wanting to help others, she often placed their needs above her own. Bertha always put her beloved family first, and she enjoyed crocheting items for the elderly. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.


The family received friends from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, October 15, in Seven Oaks Funeral Home at Water Valley. The service followed at 3 p.m. in the Henry Chapel of the funeral home, with Rev. Harold Spraberry officiating. Burial was in Pinecrest Cemetery, Yalobusha County, with Aaron Baddley, Steve Huff, Hunter Huff, Michael Cosby, Denny Clark, and Michael Gahagan as pallbearers.


Survivors include a son, Bob Coker of Water Valley; a step-daughter, Sue Ray of Tennessee; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Coker of Southaven; a step-daughter-in-law, Maudie McCullar of The Villages, Fla.; two grandchildren, Christy Huff (Steven) and Sean Coker; and three great-grandchildren.


In addition to her parents, Bertha was preceded death by two husbands, Buck Coker and Roland McCullar; a son, John Coker; a step-son, Scotty McCullar; three sisters, Annette Goodwin, Joan Gray, and Maxine Beard; and a brother, William Earl Rushing.


In lieu of flowers, the familiar request that memorials be made to The ALS Association, Tennessee Chapter, P. O. Box 40244, Nashville, TN 37204-0244.

Brandi Shook Odum

BATESVILLE—Brandi Shook Odum, 43, died October 8, 2017, as a result of an automobile accident.


The funeral service was held Thursday, October 12, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home at Oxford with Bro. Ron Crenshaw officiating. A private family graveside service followed in Anchor Cemetery. Visitation was held at  noon, prior to the service in the funeral home.


Born in Jackson, Mrs. Odum was a daughter of Gerald David Shook and Pamela Marie Zelenak Shook. Brandi was one of a kind. If you truly knew her, you loved her with all your heart and she loved you as well. She was a member of Anchor Baptist Church.


Brandi is survived by her parents, Gerald and Pam Shook of Oxford; a daughter, Bailey Odum, the complete joy of her life; a brother, Blake Shook, whom she loved dearly, of Memphis; and a host of family who adored her.
