Jerry M. Bryant


BATESVILLE—Jerry M. “Big Daddy” Bryant, age 67, passed away Saturday evening, March 17, 2018, in Methodist University Hospital at Memphis.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, in Sardis Lake Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Crofford officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Wells Funeral Home of Batesville has charge of arrangements.

Born June 11, 1950 in Batesville, Jerry was a son of the late J. B. and Kathleen Lovell Bryant. He was a retired insurance agent and a faithful member of Sardis Lake Baptist Church. In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, cooking, and eating.

He leaves his wife of 40 years, Georgie Dettor Bryant of Sardis; three daughters, Trisha Sears of Southaven, Johna Moore of Sardis, and Angelina Humphreys of Water Valley; two sons, Edward Moore of Ridgeland and Jim Moore of Brandon; one sister, Sherry Bryant Burns of Batesville; two brothers, Perry J. Bryant and Terry Lee Bryant, both of Batesville; 11 grandchildren, Gabe Jasper, Jamie Crick (Matt), Hailey Moore, Steven Haley, Bo Moore, Kayleigh Pickett, Brandi Palmer (Daniel), Dustin Robertson, Avery Humphreys, Isabella Humphreys, Alyssa Humphreys; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to  his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Kay Moore Brinson and a sister, Diane Bryant.


Bessie Faye Champion Bolen Tutor


WATER VALLEY—Bessie Faye Champion Bolen Tutor, age 80, died Friday, March 16, 2018, in Yalobusha County Nursing Home at Water Valley.

Born July 21, 1937, in Water Valley, Bessie Faye was a daughter  of the late Herman and Louise Champion and she lived in the Water Valley area all of her life.. Following her gradation from Water Valley High School  in 1955, she entered the nursing program at St. Joseph School of Nursing in Memphis. Bessie loved nursing and music, particularly church music. She was an accomplished  pianist and an active member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she served as church pianist. She was a seamstress and could also make a delicious banana pudding.

Visitation was held in Bethel Baptist Church of Water Valley Monday, March 19, at 10 a.m., with the funeral service following at 11 a.m. Bro. Shane Crawford and Dr. Danny Champion officiated the service. Burial followed in the Bethel Church Cemetery.
