Bonnie Tyler French Crosby
INDIANOLA—Bonnie Tyler French Crosby, 89, of Indianola passed away Monday, December 24, 2018, at her home.
Born October 29, 1919, in Water Valley, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Elizabeth McCormick Tyler. She worked as a deputy chancery clerk in Sunflower County for over 30 years, prior to her retirement. Mrs. Crosby loved to read, travel with her husband, and gardening. While her health permitted, she was a very active member of First Presbyterian Church in Indianola and of numerous community clubs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by both of her spouses, Malcolm French and Ira Crosby; a daughter, Lillian Turner; two brothers, Stanley Tyler and Ray Tyler; and one sister, Martha Edwards.
Mrs. Crosby is survived by five children, George French (Angie) of Indianola, Malcolm French (Judy) of Wichita, Kan., Talmadge Crosby, Jr. of Johnson City, Tenn., Bill Crosby (Marilyn) of Memphis, and Kathryn Lancaster (Johnny) of Indianola; a son-in-law, Al Turner of Oxford; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Friday, December 28, at 1 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church at Indianola. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola was entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to French Camp Academy, One Fine Place, French Camp, MS 39745.
Helen Allen Jones
OAKLAND—Helen Allen Jones, age 87, of Oakland died peacefully Sunday, December 23, 2018, in her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Born November 17, 1931, in Memphis, Mrs. Jones is a daughter of the late Joel Austin and Mae Houzlow Allen. She retired as an auditor for BorgWarner. Helen enjoyed traveling, animals and all kinds of flowers and westerns, but most of all she loved spending time with her family. She was a founding member of the First Assembly of God Church in Water Valley, where she served until her illness.
Visitation was held Thursday, December 27 in Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. The funeral service followed in Henry Chapel at the funeral home with Bro. Keith Burney and Philip Cook officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery with Billy Poyner, Jeff Brown, Chad Brown, Michael Allen, Nelson Allen and Randy Blanchard as pallbearers.
Survivors include a daughter, April Holliman (Mickey) of Carrollton; two brothers, Gene Allen (Erika) of Ridgecrest, Calif., and Vernon Allen (Bessie) of Grenada; two sisters, Sybol Ingram (Gerald) and Mildred Brown (Lane), all of Senatobia; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Helen was preceded in death by hr husband of 54 Years, Fitzhugh Lee Jones, Jr.; one daughter, Pamela Joy Jones; a son, Allen Wayne Jones; three brothers, Joel Allen, Jr., Robert Allen, and James Wallace Allen; and a sister, Mary Kathryn Blanchard.
PARIS—Erma Sparks, age 89, of Paris died peacefully Monday, December 24, 2018, in Pontotoc Health and Rehab.
Born October 13, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Nina Davis Hodge. Mrs. Sparks worked for many years as a seamstress at the Big Yank Corp. in Water volley. She enjoyed sewing and cooking, but her family always held a special place in her heart. She was a long-time member of Delay Baptist Church in Yocona.
Visitation was held Friday, December 28, in Delay Baptist Church from 12:30 until 2 p.m. The funeral service followed with Bro. Sammy Gusset and Bro. Blaine Davis officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Seven Oaks Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Erma is survived by four nieces, Carolyn Yarbrough, Marilyn Davis, Judy Bowles, and Patricia Johnson; and three nephews, Mike Foshee, David Hodge and Kenneth Hodge.
In addition to her parents, Erma was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Sparks; one sister, Jackie Faye Foshee; and a brother, Herman Cecil Hodge, Jr.
