Martha Dale Crocker
WATER VALLEY—Martha Dale Crocker, 68, of Paris passed away Friday, March 6, 2020, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford.
Born Monday, November 12, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Sharp and the late Lillie Bell Suelle Sharp.
Martha was a member of Sand Hill Methodist Church. In her early years she worked as the secretary for Lafayette Elementary School and then many years at Big Yank and BorgWarner, before retiring from Fred’s in Water Valley. She was famous among her family for her homemade biscuits. She enjoyed playing cards, drinking Diet Coke and was an avid Price is Right fan.
Survivors include her daughter, Amanda Poynor of Paris; brothers, Travis Sharp of Water Valley and Barnie (Nub) Sharp of Oxford; sisters, Wanda Lambert and Jackie Sharp both of Water Valley; two grandchildren, Richard and Lilly Harris of Paris.
She was predeceased by a sister, Patsy Sharp of Water Valley.
The funeral service was held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, in the Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bobby Jones officering. Interment was in Webb Cemetery at Paris with Garry Bratton, Lee Crocker, Wyatt Holloway, Tyler Sharp, Ronnie Stark and Jim Tierney as pallbearers.
The family received family and friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 8, in Parker Memorial Funeral Home at Bruce.
Walter Everett Musick
OXFORD—Walter Everett Musick, age 96, of Oxford, died peacefully Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Veterans Home at Oxford.
He was born November 25, 1923, in Tula, to the late Emmett and Ethel Welch Musick. He honorably served our country in World War II. Later, Walter retired from Kimberly Clark in Memphis as a supervisor. Until his health failed, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He had attended church at Terza Methodist, as well as Sylva Rena Baptist Church.
Visitation was held Saturday, March 7, from 1-2 p.m. in the Gardiner Room at Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Services followed at 2 p.m. in the Henry Chapel of the funeral home with Bro. Shane Crawford officiating. Burial was in the Sylva Rena Cemetery with Matthew Moore, Milton Johnson, Ricky McDaniel, Drew Ledbetter, Kevin Cooley, and Joey Ledbetter as pallbearers.
Walter is survived by three step-sons, Larry Moore (Diane) of Pontotoc, Tommy L. Moore and Walter C. Moore (Tait), all of Batesville; one step-daughter, Pat Ledbetter (Sam) of Walnut Ridge, Ark.; three grandchildren, Ashley Leitch, Gail Booth and Lacey Clay; 13 step-grandchildren; numerous great-grands; and one daughter-in-law, Becky Moore.
Along with his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys; his second wife of 14 years, Lorene Moore Musick; one son, Walter Gale Musick; one step-son, William L. Moore; two brothers, Elbert and Milton Musick; one sister, Lavern Dillard; and one daughter-in-law, Sissy Moore.
Carolyn Brown Purdy
COFFEEVILLE—Carolyn Brown Purdy, age 74, of Coffeeville died peacefully Sunday, March 8, 2020, at her home with her family by her side.
Born January 30, 1946 in Oxford, she was a daughter of the late James and Edna Williams Brown. .She served her family as a homemaker. Carolyn graduated from Water Valley High School and attended Wood Junior College in Mathiston. In her lifetime she enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and the San Antonio Spurs basketball team. More than anything, Carolyn enjoyed the time she spent with her family including cooking, especially her chocolate pies, which were a family favorite.
Visitation is planned for Wednesday, March 11, from 10-11 a.m in the Gardiner Room at Seven Oaks Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. in the Henry Chapel of the funeral home with Bro. Nathan Swanson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, with James McNatt, Devin Green, Tristan Peacock, Nathan Purdy, Rhea Brown and Ryan Brown as pallbearers.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of 27 years, Luke Purdy; one daughter, Kari Smith Long of Water Valley; one step-daughter, Rubijo Purdy of Water Valley; one step-son, Jason Purdy (Emily) of Coffeeville; five grandchildren, Devin Green (Brittany), Tristan Peacock, Nathan Purdy, Mykayla Purdy, Madison Purdy; one great-grandchild; one sister, Anne Babb and a brother, Breck Brown (Carol), all of Water Valley; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Lisa Renee Shelnutt
OAKLAND – Lisa Renee Shelnutt, 41, of Oakland, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford. She was born August 4, 1978. She was a homemaker and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, March 16, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service Monday at McKibben and Guinn.
Survivors include three daughters, Brianna Holland (Dillon) of Grenada, Kaytlynn Stephens of Tillatoba and Destiny Stephens of Grenada; one son, Chance Stephens of New Edinburg, Ark.; her father, Kaylon Case of Florida; two sisters, Holly Neese of Holcomb and Tara Case of North Carolina; four brothers, Brandon Hancock of Alabama, Josh Thelemann of Missouri, Chad Case of Kentucky and Kevin Case of North Carolina; and four grandchildren, Landon Holland, Mayci Gant, Alyssa Gant and Paisley Brown.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Donna Thelemann Stephens, and step-father, Robert “Don” Stephens.
Arrangements were entrusted to McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada.
