Deadline To Qualify For School Slots Is Sept. 4

The deadline to qualify for school board slots is just over a week away and at presstime no candidates have submitted paperwork to run according to Yalobusha County Circuit Clerk Daryl Burney. Two positions in the Water Valley School District and one position in the Coffeeville School District will be on the November 5 General Election Ballot.
In Water Valley, Position 3 and Position 4 are up for grabs. Position Three incumbent Pierce Epes reported he will not qualify to run. Epes fulfilled two five-year terms and is currently serving his 11th year after he was appointed to serve this year. His year-long appointment last December came after there was a vacancy in the position.
Position Four incumbent Taylor Trusty also told the Herald he will not seek a fourth term. Trusty will have 15 years of service on the board when his term ends in December.
In the Coffeeville School District, Position 4 will be on the ballot. Larry Bland currently serves in this position.
The deadline to qualify is 5 p.m. on September 4. Candidates must obtain signatures from 50 qualified electors who reside in the position they are running. Each school district is divided into  five positions, or subdistricts. The new terms will start in 2021.
