Powering Everest

Workers with the city’s electric department and McGregor Industrial Steel Fabrication carefully install a new 12,000 pound transformer with the help of “Big Red,” a massive fork lift last Wednesday. The transformer will provide electricity to Everest, the state’s first Rural Education and Innovation Hub. Everest is located in the former Big Yank/Rice Stix building on Central Street and will house classes for Base Camp Coding Academy and Northwest Mississippi Community College. Power was turned on at the building Tuesday morning.
