William Dalton
PARIS – William (Ricky) Dalton of Paris died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. He was 62.
Born to the late James and Lavelle (Harmon) Dalton, he began his earthly journey January 12, 1958, in Water Valley. Part of the well known Harmon family, he worked in a couple of the family businesses early in life. He began his career by hauling watermelons for Harmon produce, then later working for Harmon logging. Ricky later went to work for Big Yank in Water Valley as a “turner” until the business closed. Ricky was a down-to-earth, fun-loving, country boy as evidenced by his hobbies, which included fishing, riding four-wheelers, mud ridin’ and target shooting.
The family has chosen a private family service. Seven Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ricky is survived by one son, Dylan Dalton; one daughter, Dana Dalton (fiance’ Hayden Self), all of Paris; and one step-grandson, Harvey Kaup.
In addition to both of his parents, Ricky was preceded in death by one sister, Donna Dalton.
Cortaveus Hawkins
WATER VALLEY – Cortaveus Devonte (Slick) Hawkins transitioned on Sunday, December 20, 2020 in an automobile accident in Taylor. He was 25.
Cortaveus was born October 24, 1995, in Oxford to Mr. Craig and Mrs. Shenetha Hawkins. He was a 2014 graduate of Water Valley High School and attended Northwest Mississippi Community College. Cortaveus was employed at Olin Winchester for four and a half years. In his spare time he enjoyed hanging out with his family and friends.
Cortaveus confessed hope in Christ at an early age and united with Union Hill C.M.E. Church in Water Valley.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories, his parents, Craig and Shenetha Hawkins of Water Valley; one sister, Shanikque Hawkins of Oxford; one brother, Jonathan Gaston of Water Valley; a special friend, KeAuana Farrow of Water Valley; his grandparents, Joe and Shirley Pomerlee and James Earl Johnson of Water Valley and William and Shelia Hawkins of Oxford; nieces and nephews, Aerteyianna, Caidon, Kylan and Kinsley; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Exerlene Hawkins, two uncles, R. V. Hervey and Case Hawkins, great grandparents, Deslar Johnson and Leslie and Flora Hawkins.
Graveside services were held on Monday, Dec. 28, at Union Hill C.M.E. Church Cemetery in Water Valley. Serenity-Daniels Funeral Home of Water Valley was in charge of the arrangements.
