City Clears Hurdles For New Dollar Store

Developers are scheduled to close on the deal to purchase the former Fred’s building on Tuesday. Work is expected to start on renovating the property in the coming weeks as the building will be converted to a new hybrid Dollar Tree/Family Dollar Store.

WATER VALLEY – City officials resolved legal issues on property where the former Fred’s building is located to clear the way for a property transaction for new Dollar Tree store. Working in a special meeting last month, aldermen voted unanimously to terminate a decades-old reversion clause and revise utility easements on the property at the request of Elcan and Associates, a preferred Dollar Tree developer.

“I think what the ultimate product of what Dollar Tree will have there will be a real asset to the whole city of Water Valley,” Elcan and Associates, Inc. President Daniel G. Elcan told city officials during the meeting. He also said the store is expected to employee close to 20 full-time employees.

I sure hope they have electric handicap carts. Not all of us can shop anywhere in Water Valley except Cash Saver because they are the only one that has electric carts.
