Ward Two Race Will Be Decided In April 27 Runoff

WATER VALLEY – Five of the six contested city offices in Water Valley were settled in last Tuesday’s Democratic Primary. Incumbent Donald Gray was elected with over 70 percent of the vote, defeating Terry Rockette – 375 – 158. Alderman-at-Large Herbert A. Rogers and Nicole M. Folson were both unopposed and will serve second terms.

In Ward 2, incumbent Fred White trailed Freddie Folson in a three-way race. Folson led the ticket with 56 votes, or 48 percent of the votes cast, but did not receive a majority and will face Fred White in a runoff on April 27. White received 47 votes and McKendrick Pawfene Bounds received 13 votes.

In the third contested race on the ballot, Ron Hart was elected Ward One Alderman, defeating Lloyd L. Caulfield. Hart received 97 votes and Caulfield 81 votes.

In Ward Three, Bonnie Bright Cox was unopposed.

The candidates’ four-year terms start in July.
