WATER VALLEY – Only two days remain before the qualifying period ends to run for school board positions in the Water Valley and Coffeeville school districts. In the Water Valley School District, Position 5 will be on the Nov. 2 General Election ballot and the circuit clerk’s office reported that no candidates have qualified by press-time Tuesday.

Position 5, one of five subdistricts in the Water Valley School District, spans the western portion of school territory including the Sylva Rena area. Chris Terry is in the incumbent in this position. To qualify for the non-partisan position, a candidate must obtain 50 signatures from qualified electors who reside in Position 5. If no candidate qualifies, the school board will make an appointment for 2022 and the position will be on the November ballot next year.

In the Coffeeville School District, the circuit clerk’s office reported Mitchell Steen is the only qualifier for Position 5. Todd Hughes is the incumbent in this position.

The five-year terms in both districts start on January 1.
