WATER VALLEY – It was a sure bet that the Blue Devils would win last Friday’s contest as the Water Valley Blue Devils hosted the Booneville Blue Devils for the teams’ fifth meeting. It was Water Valley that pounded out a decisive win, 56 – 27, to claim the second spot in the Division 1-3A behind Kossuth.
Quarterback C.J. Telford connected for three long passes for the first three touchdowns in the game – a 63 -yard strike to SaSa Freeman for, a 67-yard pass to Marion Morgan and a 62-yard throw to Que Carothers.
Water Valley’s next score came on special teams as Chris Harris took it 94 yards on a kickoff return.
Telford went back to work for the final score of the first half with a 42-yard touchdown pass to Marion Morgan to bring the score 35 – 14 at the buzzer.
Telford would take it in the endzone for the next two touchdowns with a 17 yard-run and a one-yard run. The final points in the game came with a 28 yard touchdown run by Brayden Buford for his first score of the season.
The Blue Devils will be on the road for the final regular season game as they travel to Alcorn Central Thursday night. This meeting will be the first for the teams. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
