Covid Cases Continue To Decline In Yalobusha County

 

JACKSON – The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported 27 new Covid-19 cases in Yalobusha County during the last two weeks (Oct. 26 – Nov. 9), signaling a decline in the surge of cases starting in early August with the delta coronavirus variant. The state agency reported 322 new cases in August, 235 in October and 109 in October. In November there have been 16 cases to date (Nov. 9).

MSDH reports the number of Covid-related deaths in the county is 47, with the last fatality recorded on Sept. 10. There were four deaths reported in August and two in September.

MSDH also reports that 60 percent of Yalobusha County residents, or 7,261 people, are fully vaccinated. Trailing Jefferson County by one percent, Yalobusha County has the second highest vaccination rate in the state.

Statistics provided by MSDH show that 12 students at Davidson Elementary School have tested positive for Covid-19 since school started in August. Eleven students at Water Valley High School have tested positive for the virus. Less than five teachers or staff members at the elementary school and six teachers or staff members at the high school have tested positive for the virus since the start of school.

Flu Shots Available

MSDH also reported that seasonal in influenza vaccinations are available for children and qualifying adults at all county health departments. Flu vaccination is recommended for everyone six months of age and older as the best pro- tection against the  flu.

“We recommend that all Mississippians get their  flu shots every year, but especially now with Covid-19,” MSDH State Epidemiologist Dr. Paul Byers reported.
