WATER VALLEY – For the first time in two years, the Water Valley Area of Commerce will host a public gathering to introduce incoming officers and present the Braswell Hatcher Community Service Award. The reception and awards ceremony is scheduled for Monday, May 23, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Bozarts.
The Braswell Hatcher Community Service Award was established by the Chamber in 1998 and named for the first recipient. It is presented annually to an area citizen for untiring and exemplary service to community by someone who has served in a fashion that is above and beyond the norm. The identify of the recipient remains a secret until the presentation.
Mayor Donald Gray will speak on the state of the city and other topics of interest to Water Valley citizens. Yalobusha County Board of Supervisors President Cayce Washington will recognize outgoing Yalobusha County Economic Development and Tourism District Director Bob Tyler.
Tyler has served as the county’s economic development director since the organization’s inception in 2007. He is credited for building broad county-wide support and serving as a catalyst for many projects including growth at the county’s two largest employers – BorgWarner, now Solero, and Ajinomoto Foods. Tyler is a previous recipient of the Braswell Hatcher Community Service Award. The last time the award was presented was in 2019. Don Larson was the recipient.
The public is invited to attend. Refreshments will be served following the event.
