William Mack Atkinson, Jr.
WATER VALLEY – William Mack “Bill“ Atkinson of Water Valley, MS went to his eternal home Monday, May 16, 2022, at Panola Medical Center in Batesville. He was 83.
Bill was born June 26, 1938, in Lafayette County to the late William Mack Atkinson, Sr. and Mattie Lou Thorn Atkinson. After attending West Tallahatchie High School in Webb, he graduated from Delta State University.
After college he spend his entire career working for AFLAC. Even though he graduated from Delta State, Bill was a self-described “big-time” fan of Ole Miss sports and Mississippi State women’s basketball. In addition to sports, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Visitation is planned for Friday, May 20, in the Gardiner Room at Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Services will immediately follow at 11 a.m. in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
Bill is survived by one daughter, Barbara Lynn Kakta; two sisters, Barbara Gentry (Leo) of Damascus Ore., Betty Pierce (Mike) of Raleigh, N.C.; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by one daughter, Jeanna Suggs; and one brother, Ira Gene Atkinson.
Janet Marie Bratton
WATER VALLEY – Janet Marie Bratton, age 68, of Water Valley died Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Panola County Medical Center in Batesville.
Born July 14, 1953, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Mary (Griffis) Keel. Janet was born into a generation where the daily focus was family and hard work. She began that work at an early age that included employment at Big Yank, Baptist Memorial Hospital, Holley Carburetor, Taylor Catfish and others. When she wasn’t working to provide for her family, she found great pleasure in cooking, yard work, shopping, and playing computer games. She also loved family gatherings where she could spend time with her grandchildren, who meant the world to her.
A memorial service is planned for Friday, May 20 in the Henry Chapel at Seven Oaks Funeral Home starting at 3 p.m.
Janet is survived by two daughters, Tammy Bratton (Tony Potts) and Michelle Hastings, all of Water Valley; as well as two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by one daughter, Kristy Dixson.
WATER VALLEY – Lurin A. Campbell of Water Valley died on April 21, 2022.
Visitation was held Saturday, May 7, at Martin Street Church of Christ. A funeral service followed at the church.
Grayson Seth Fly
WATER VALLEY – Grayson Seth Fly, 24, of Water Valley, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022 in North Carolina. He was born March 8, 1998 in Oxford.
Grayson had proudly worked in the construction field as a pipeliner. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially loved spending time with his son, Max.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada. Gis aunt, Diane Stribling officiated. Interment followed in the Goshen Cemetery near Coffeeville.
Survivors include his wife, Janie Fly of Grenada; a son, Maximus Fly of Grenada; his mother and step-father, Elisha and Bubba Martin of Water Valley; sister, Danielle Smart (Josh) of Grenada; grandparents, Lynn Allen and Lylia Fly of Horn Lake and Bob and Peggy Lee of Water Valley; and nieces Carolina and Taytum.
He was preceded in death by his father, Reginald Allen “Reggie” Fly.
Pallbearers were Charles “Chop” Bradley, Zack Ivey, Zander Ivey, Greg Langham, Dillon McCachren, Josh Smart, Tyler Trusty and Garrett Yopp. Honorary pallbearers werew David Black, D. Franklin, Winford McCraney, George Peace and Jeff Swain.
