Linda (Wheeler)  Harris 

NETTLETON/WATER VALLEY – Linda Denise (Wheeler) Harris, 58, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

She was born on September 28, 1963 in Monroe County to Wendell Wheeler, Sr. and Patricia A. Wheeler. Linda was a loving and caring person and her chosen profession as a nurse suited her well. She lived most of her life in Monroe County but had resided in Water Valley for the last four years. She was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, drinking coffee and doing arts and crafts.

Funeral services were held at the Chapel of Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Nettleton on Sunday, July 10, with Rev. Sammy Raper and Bro. Philip Lindsey officiating. Burial was in Jones Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers were Trey Wheler, Patrick Wheeler, Josh Wheeler, Lee Wheeler, Justin Grissom, and Jack Grissom.

She is survived by her loving husband, David Harris; one sister, Wendy Grissom (Jack); one brother, Lee Wheeler; one niece, Paislea Pollock; four nephews, Justin Grissom, Trey Wheeler, Patrick Wheeler and Josh Wheeler; and three great nieces and nephews. She was a great foster mother to several rescue pets.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father.

Lakoya T. Lawrence

WATER VALLEY – Lakoya T. Lawrence died June 28, 2022. She was 18.

Lakoya was born October 17, 2002 to James and Linda Lawrence. She was a member of Bayson Chapel M.B. Church and graduated from Coffeeville High School in 2021. Lakoya was a student at South College until her body began to show signs of the rigors of lifelong health challenges.

Services were held at Bayson Chapel M.B. Church on Saturday, July 9, at Bayson Chapel M.B. Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Clark Williams Funeral Home in Grenada was in charge of arrangements.  Pallbearers were Barry Baker, Deshun Baker, Xavier Pegues, Edwin Pettis, Dexter Baker, Rovert Pascul, Isiah Pegues and Roger Turner. Lady pallbearers were Precious Polk, Candace Farmer, Kayla Bardo, Sade Baker, Keyona Baker, Miracle Baker, Kayla Baker, La’Taznia Roland, Kiarra Lemon and Acuria Baker-Coleman.

In addition to her parents, Lakoya is survived by her  grandmothers, Pam Lawrence and Lois Baker; uncles Rodney Lawrence, Haywood Baker, Jr., Paul Baker, Tyrone Baker, Linwood Baker, Barry Baker, Glen Baker, Michael Baker and Dexter Baker; aunts Joyce Harris, Christy Baker, Pamela Baker and Inetra Polk; and a number of cousins, extended family, friends, doctors and nurses.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Haywood Baker, Sr. and James Lawrence, Sr.

Ruby Melinda Redwine

WATER VALLEY – Melinda Redwine, age 64, of Water Valley, died July 9, 2022, at Diversicare Living Facility in Eupora. She was born May 9, 1958, in Greenville to the late Henry Cortesi and Sarah (Pipkin) Cortesi.

While in the hospital in 1977, Melinda had a blind date with a young man by the name of James “Kenny” Redwine. From that chance encounter, a romance ensued and a few months later the two were married and began their family.  Melinda-whole heartedly loved her family and graciously served them as a homemaker. In 1993, after only 16 years of marriage, Kenny passed away unexpectedly leaving her to raise their girls. After the girls were grown, Melinda moved to Starkville and worked as a house keeper and dog sitter. When time allowed, she loved playing bingo, watching Gunsmoke and John Wayne movies. Nothing held a deeper place in her heart than that of her family.

Services were held Tuesday, July 12, at 3 p.m. in Henry Chapel  at Seven Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Childs officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Melinda is survived by two daughters, Regina Redwine, Hayley Redwine; one brother, Billy Cortesi; 2 sisters, Louise Morgan, Christine Rogers; one grand-daughter, Kennedy Dehetre; and a host of brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

As well as her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Kenny Redwine; two brothers, Roy Cortesi, Charles Cortesi; and one sister, Mary Muirhead.

James Edward Strickland

WATER VALLEY – James Edward Strickland, age 79, of Water Valley died July 8, 2022, at his home in Water Valley, MS with family by his side.

Born December 27, 1942, in Calhoun City, he was a son of the late George Strickland and Clara Goodwin Strickland. James started his working career at Ram Tool in Water Valley, and after many company transitions retired with almost 40 years from Borg Warner. James also honorably served his country for twenty years in the Army National Guard. When not working he was a home body and loved being around his family.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, at Freedom Place Church on Hwy. 7 North.

James is survived by his wife, Ruth Strickland of Water Valley; two sons, Michael Strickland, Kerry Strickland; two brothers, Charles Strickland and David (Karen) Strickland; and five sisters Shirley Baker, Maxine Rose, Gladys Mitchell, Dorothy (Chuck) Schwinn, and Sandra Melton.

In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by a son, James Strickland; and a brother Eugene Strickland.
