Ambassadors Welcome Peck’s Trading With Ribbon Cutting

Mayor Donald Gray and the Water Valley ambassadors held a ribbon cutting for Peck’s Trading last Thursday. Owner Abby Davis (right of mayor) cut the ribbon as her family members (from left) Cathy Davis, Parker Canterbury, Gregg Davis, Margaret Canterbury, Callie Canterbury, Emma Canterbury, Justin Canterbury, Sarah Ward and Collins Ward help hold the ribbon. Roscoe was awakened from his morning nap just in time for the visitors.
The Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors hosted a ribbon cutting for Peck’s Trading, located east of the city on Hwy. 315 last Thursday. The store was reopened last year by Abby Davis.
“My dad grew up with the original store in the same spot as Peck’s Trading dreamed that one day he would run a small business of his own, just like it,” Abby explained. “He would tell me and my sisters stories about the store and how it brought the small community of Paris together, even bringing in customers from Water Valley, Oxford and surrounding areas.
Gregg Davis’ wish came true in 2014 when he opened his own store in the same location. After a few short years, he was forced to close down in 2020 due to the pandemic.
“He wasn’t able to get any products in from his distributors,” Anna explained about the tough times during the pandemic. “I remember how hard he tried to find products, calling different distributors and family-owned businesses. They were having just as much trouble getting product as he was, so he reluctantly decided to close down.
Two years later, in May, 2022, Anna had an idea to open Peck’s Trading again to the public. She was surprised when her dad agreed to let her buy the store from him. In August, 2022, Anna took a leap of faith and reopened Peck’s Trading.
Located at 257 Hwy. 315 Davis has a wide range of meat products including bacon, burgers, chicken tenders, hot dogs, pork chops, pork tenderloin, ribeyes (seasonal), ribs, sausage, shrimp and smoked sausage. She also offers vegetables, sauces, cheese, grits, jams and jellies and an array of tasty frozen products ranging from breaded mushrooms to spicy fries and from biscuits to mozzarella sticks.
“What a joy it has been, I have absolutely loved figuring out how to run a business and meeting new people from all over. There are no words to express how thankful I am to have received so much support and encouragement during this time and I pray this small business of mine continues to grow,” Abby said.
The store is located at 257 Hwy. 315, east of Water Valley and is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
