Water Valley Mayor Donald Gray welcomed 102 guests representing 20 different clubs at the Hills and Delta District Garden Clubs Of Mississippi’s annual spring district meeting on May 25.
WATER VALLEY – The Hills and Delta District of the Garden Clubs of Mississippi held its annual spring district meeting May 25 at Fountain Square Event Plaza on Frostland Drive.
The Water Valley Town and Country Garden Club hosted the event which was entitled Spring Garden Party. Presiding over the meeting was Gale Moore, Hills and Delta District Director.
Rev. Curt Presley of the First Presbyterian Church presented the invocation. Jessie Gurner, president of the Town and Country Garden Club, introduced Mayor Donald Gray who welcomed the 102 guests from 20 clubs to the city and said, “We appreciate everything our gardens clubs do for Water Valley.”
Melinda Causey, President of the Garden Clubs of Mississippi, presented awards to the clubs in the district and made announcements regarding the upcoming year.

Jeff McManus presented “Pruning Like a Pro” with a hands-on demonstration showing proper pruning methods.
Workshops offered during the meeting included the President’s Workshop with Melinda Causey, Awards presented by Sandra McCaula, Youth Activities given by Allison Ashmore, and Cooking with Herbs taught by Gladne Harris of Harris Family Farms.
After lunch, Town and Country Garden Club Vice President Patsy Humphreys, introduced a special guest speaker. Jeff McManus, Director of Landscape Service at the University of Mississippi presented a knowledgeable, and often amusing program, Pruning Like a Pro. He did a hands on demonstration showing the proper, and improper, pruning methods along with providing insights on how the beauty of the Ole Miss campus is maintained.
At the close of the meeting items from Sartain’s TrueValue, The Magnolia Coffee Co., GG’s Flowers & Gifts, Carquest Auto Parts – Midtown Auto, Turnage Drug Store, BTC Old Fashion Grocery, BackTrack Antiques and Gifts, South Main Boutique, and a variety of floral arrangements were given away as door prizes.
