Clister Hervey
WATER VALLEY – Clister Hervey passed from this life on Sunday, May 27, 2033. She was born March 27, 1927 to the late Everlina and Ira Hervey. She accepted Christ at an early age and served faithfully on the mother board at her church.
The funeral service was Saturday, June 3 at noon at Union Hill. Seven Oaks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Clister was a home-maker, a wonderful cook, and she loved her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was married to the late Wadell Macllock and with him having three children, Sandra (Levo) Harris, Bennie (Johnny) Woodard, and Shirley (Joe) Pomerlee. She was united to the late Roosevelt Caldwell and with him having five children, Rosie Morgan, Mary Pomerlee (Stan), Eva (Sherman) Harris, all of Water Valley, and Betty (Bryan) Daniels, of Horn Lake.
She also leaves behind 45 grandchildren and a host of great-grands and great-great-grands; one sister, Gracie Hervey, and one brother, Charles Hervey, both of Water Valley; two brothers-in-law, Rural (Hattie) Caldwell and J.W. Caldwell; and three sisters-in-law, Luvenia Willingham, Cora Caldwell and Annie White.
Clister was preceded in death by three children, Sarah, Willie and John; seven brothers; and two sisters.
George E. Laird
WATER VALLEY – George E. Laird, age 71, of Water Valley passed from this life Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis. Born July 10, 1951, in South Bend, Ind., he was a son of the late Oscar and Margaret (Eversol) Laird.
George honorably served our country in the United States Army where he received three medals including a Purple Heart. After returning, he worked hanging steel and later worked in maintenance, a job which he would retire from. George had the gift of gab and was well known for his ability to maintain a conversation. He enjoyed fishing when able and watching the show “COPS.” He will be missed by his many friends.
Visitation was held Thursday, June 1, 2023, in the Gardiner Room at Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 1 until 2 p.m. Services immediately followed at 2 p.m. in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Dr. Randy Bain officiating. Burial was in Mt. Liberty Cemetery including Military honors.
George is survived by his wife Diana; two sons, Chad Laird and Deric Laird; one granddaughter, Haylee Laird; two grandsons, Skylar Laird and Preston Laird; and three sisters, Rita Baker, Diana Brugh, and Donna Wrezien; one brother-in-law, Carlos Velez (Rose).
George was preceded in death by his parents.
Martha Jane Carroll Siegel
BRADENTON, Fla. – Martha Jane Carroll Siegel, 78, of Bradenton, Fla. passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023 at her home. She was born on February 1, 1945 in Water Valley, the daughter of the late William Howard Carroll and Ada Lee Hitchcock Carroll.
Martha Jane worked as a bank teller in St. Louis, where she met her future husband. She then devoted her time to being a wife, mother, and homemaker.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at the Mortimer National Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada. Burial followed in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens near Water Valley. Mortimer National Funeral Home in Grenada was in charge of arrangements.
Martha Jane is survived by one daughter, Pam Ware (Tim) of Bradenton, Fla.; one son, Jim Siegel (Jennifer) of Kirkwood, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Abbey Siegel, Jake Siegel, Josh Chapman, Noah Chapman and Jonah Chapman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernard Siegel; one daughter, Alisa Siegel; and one grandson, Tyler Chapman.
