As our fiscal year ends and officers rotate, I would like to say I have really enjoyed writing my article every month and helping to keep our little town informed on what our club does. Over the past year our “little” club has turned into a “bigger” club and I couldn’t be happier about that. Our club is so unique and all the ladies bring something different to the table making it so much more special.
I will pass this fun job over to our new secretary, Luanne Brooks, when our new year starts in September. I know Luanne will do a fine job. I personally want to thank Melody Smith at the Herald office for her help and always dealing with me. There were times I submitted a picture without a description and it was so easy to reach out to her for help, she would always immediately come to my rescue.
Melody and David both go above and beyond for our paper and our people. THANK YOU!
For my last article I want to focus on one of our biggest projects to date, our gazebo at the City Park. If you read any prior articles I have written, you know the hard work and dedication that has been invested in that HUGE job. You know how every single member and all of the help from the city guys made this project a success.
We still can’t thank everyone enough who made this happen, but we will always be so thankful for their input and help. With that being said, I want to share with you the two awards we received at the State Garden Club meeting this past year for the work on the gazebo. We couldn’t be at the State meeting so it was awarded to us at the District meeting that was held here in Water Valley.
We won first place in the Small Clubs Landscape Design from Deep South Garden Clubs, Inc. We also won first place for Small Clubs Overall State as the recipient of the Lillie Brown Landscape Award from The Garden Clubs of MS, Inc.
Receiving these two awards after seeing first-hand all of the hard work that was put into this project makes me very proud to be a part of this club. As members of The Garden Club of Water Valley, we will continue to strive to make our community better and more beautiful in any way we can. With our roster continuing to grow, our future for this club is very bright.
