Christian love and sympathy to the Curtis Turner family of Grenada. Mr. Curtis Powell Turner, 86, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2023 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Curtis always had a sweet smile on his face when I saw him. It has been a while but, I do remember that about him. A sincere smile is one not easily forgotten. RIP Mr. Curtis.
David wanted chicken and dumplings for his Father’s Day dinner, so I started out Saturday night making them. By Sunday morning, I had a big pot ready along with peas, slaw and candied yams. Those enjoying the meal were daughters Donna and Brandy, son Timothy Sullivan, friend Joseph, and granddaughters, Miranda and Summer Procella and Frankie Holliday.
JR Dukes finished 7th this weekend overall at Lake Ferguson. JR said he should have had a lot better finish and did everything he could but couldn’t keep a few bass alive for the weigh-in. He said maybe next is the regional on Ross Barnett.
It was busy week for Martha Box starting with Tuesday night revival service at Willow Springs Assembly of God. Next was a stormy trip down and back to Jackson Wednesday. Trees were down across the north and south lanes at two places. Storms had twisted and ripped up a few of the trees.
Martha hung out with her sister, Joyce, a bit Friday and Saturday. She said they gotta quit eating out! She stayed home Sunday resting up her ole bad foot and her mind. Her daughter, Ginger and Phil came by with some homemade soup.
Holly and Haven Rose Dukes, along with Anna and Joanna Pullen, went shopping Saturday to buy flowers and beautiful flower pots to go in their yard. The girls helped their mothers plant flowers. They really enjoyed it. Diane Dukes was lucky. They sent her a picture of two big flower pots that had deer on them and she had to have those pots. Diane was in Southaven shopping and couldn’t wait to get home to see her flower pots.
While Diane was shopping at Kirkland’s, she saw and talked to a sweet lady, Kitty Hill. Diane’s swimming pool is ready for her grandchildren and great grandchildren and other family members to enjoy.
Sheryn Goode said it took her a week to get over being gone a week, plus she had two doctor appointments. She went to Memphis for eight days and stayed with her grandson while her daughter and son-in-law went to Jamaica.
Sheryn said she forgot how fast everything goes in the city as people there life different than in the country where life is slow and laid back.
Sheryn said, “My grandson and I had a good time, we ordered different foods and had delivered.”
Sure beats cooking.
Sheryn’s daughter was coming Sunday, but because of the weather they decided for her to stay home and off that road.
Sheryn also enjoyed a visit with her other daughter and an old friend. They went out to eat and had fun talking. She also got to visit grandkids and great grandkids.
“I finally got to hold my newest great grandson, Baylor. All in all I had a great time,” Sheryn said.
Shelia Jackson said her two doctors appointments went well last week. You are going to start feeling like a new woman soon, girl.
Tommy and Deborah McCool spent Sunday after church at her daddy’s, Ray Bell’s. Deborah said their girls and family and Michael, her nephew, and his family cooked on the grill.
Sadie Harper came in from grocery shopping the other day and there was a big snake on the floor. She was thankful two young men were there spraying for termites and came in and killed the snake.
I think I would have thrown the sack of groceries at it but, on second thought, as high as groceries are now, maybe not.
