WATER VALLEY – On Saturday, July 15, a tea party was thrown for Nell Golson to celebrate her 88th birthday. The party was held at the Yalobusha Country Club and the hostesses went above and beyond to make sure the theme of an old time tea party was felt throughout the event. The guests arrived in fancy hats and signed a memory book with special thoughts and memories for Nell.
The guests were welcomed with lace gloves and fans at each place setting as they listened to hits from past artists such as Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman, and the Glen Miller Band. Once seated, the ladies were served hot tea from ornate china and ceramic pitchers as they enjoyed chicken salad, pimento cheese and cucumber sandwiches.

Hostesses for the tea – Jill Sharp, Kelly Henning, Marilyn Rotenberry, Luanne Brooks, Nancy Rogers, Dana Williamson, Nita Chapman – are pictured with the birthday girl, Nell Gholson (seated).
Petite four cakes and cookies were set on three tier china pedestals on each table. Peach Sangria punch and wine were available for those who preferred a little kick to the afternoon. It was a carefully planned and long awaited party for Nell to see old friends and listen to stories about times past.
The hostesses for the day all call the birthday girl Granny and take her on girl trips when they can. They will all say that she is the youngest 88 year old that they know!!
