As the first official week of school is now complete, the Water Valley High School students are off to a spectacular start! While it was not the busiest week for the Blue Devils, the school week was a success! Everyone is adjusting to their school schedules, preparing for fall sports, and planning a splendid school year! Even the teachers are showing their school spirit and support by decorating their rooms according to the subject they teach, making helpful handouts to educate their students further, and overall having a positive attitude as they set the tone for the year.
The beginning of the school year is one of the most critical times of the year. Teachers are even learning the different personalities of each student they encounter throughout the day, so their incoming students can learn to develop a positive relationship and good classroom community. Teachers are also focusing on reviewing their year-long planner to ensure it meets their students’ needs.
Academic groups such as the student council are already getting a head start for the year as many students are signing up to participate. Student council is a vital part of Water Valley High School leadership. Student council keeps the school spirit going as they create fun themes for dress-up days, hand out treat bags for special holidays, decorate the school, and give the student body a chance to consider what’s best for Water Valley High.
The senior class of 2024 is arranging their schedules accordingly to help them prepare for life after high school. The counselor scheduled daily meetings with each senior to discuss the remainder of their senior year and what is most beneficial for the future of each student. During the sessions, they discussed each step they needed to take during their last year of high school to help end the final year with a breeze.
Water Valley cheerleaders helped train over 60 Devil Dolls during the annual cheerleading camp.
The seniors and counselors are working hard to pave the way for their future education, careers, and anything else they may pursue after high school. Senior athletes have the opportunity to take professional pictures in order to create their senior sports banners. These banners will be placed around Water Valley High as their season approaches for all of the supporting fans, teammates, opposing teams, and visitors to have in sight as each sporting event takes place.
The Lady Devils volleyball team is putting in total effort to progress their skills, focusing on team management and communication skills as the very first game of the season is approaching. The football team’s first official game of the season is August 25; leading up to that, they will play a scrimmage game on August 18th and will host the annual “Meet the Blue Devils” the same day. Each member of the football team and additional members of other sports at Water Valley High will be introduced. “Meet the Blue Devils” is not only an excellent way to introduce the players to the community, but it is an exciting opportunity for teammates, peers, coaches, and community members to come together to celebrate the beginning of a new season!
This past weekend the Water Valley Cheerleading squad arranged their annual Devil Dolls camp containing mini cheerleaders of all ages from Kindergarten up to sixth grade. This camp was a hit with over 60 Devil Dolls participating! This camp included a full day of jam-packed fun filled with crowd-leading cheers, toe touches high enough to reach the sky, thrilling games, and a hype dance.
This camp is held each year before the start of football season to prepare each Devil Doll for every home game, where the mini cheerleaders will perform all the material they received at camp before the game kicks off. This spirit-filled day concluded with proud parents coming in and observing as their aspiring cheerleaders showcased every jump, dance, sideline, and cheer they learned.
Overall, the students at Water Valley High have enjoyed the introduction to their school year! While everyone is waiting for all of the eventful weeks to begin. Each day as the hallways fill with roaring commotion and chaotic students, I’ll be watching every step of the way to give you the latest updates every week right from within the walls of the Blue and White!
