WATER VALLEY – The deadline to qualify for two school board positions in the Water Valley School District and another in the Coffeeville School District is Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 5 p.m.
Circuit Clerk Daryl Burney reported that the qualifying period is for Position 2 and Position 5 in the Water Valley School District. The election in Position 2 is for a five-year term that starts in January. In Position Five, there is a special election to fill the remaining three years in the five-year term. In the Coffeeville School District, Position 2 will on the ballot.
Burney noted that each school board position will only appear on the November ballot if two or more candidates qualify for the position. If only one candidate qualifies, the candidate is not listed on the ballot and automatically takes office in January.
Burney also noted that there is no runoff election scheduled in Yalobusha County on Tuesday, August 29.
“Some of the surrounding counties will have a runoff election for the local positions but there are no regional or statewide runoffs,” Burney explained.
