The Water Valley High students are continuing the tradition of Blue Devil fun! Last week was filled with non-stop activities and sports each day and being part of a smaller-scale school has its benefits! One of the best things about being so united is the support that comes from all of the students, teachers, faculty, and community members. Every sport has had its ups and downs but no matter what, the student sections and fans remain consistent with tons of support and encouraging chants.

Student Council officers for 2023-2024 school year had their first official meeting of the year. The officers are (from left) vice-president Jenna Trusty, ninth grade representative Taylor Franklin, President Evey Brooks, digital resource officer Jake Crawford, treasurer Mandaryn Smith and secretary Bayleigh Jaudon.
The Lady Devils Volleyball team had a busy week, and so did the students as they showed up at each game, participating in the student section dress-up themes and yelling their best chants at the top of their lungs. They started the week out strong, with the junior high and junior varsity dominating the Senatobia Warriors with the help of the student section dressed out in their finest pajamas to distract the opposing teams, helping lead the Lady Devils to victory.
Though the varsity team did not come out on top when competing against the Warriors, they made up for it the next game day as each team blew out the Holly Springs Hawks in every match. Each match or game is made up of sets. The junior varsity competed for the best two-out -of-three sets and won the match in the first two sets. The varsity team competed best three out of five sets and won the game in the first three sets against the Hawks.
These Lady Devils are on fire and ready to continue in their season with the help of the most outstanding student section. Be sure to travel with the volleyball team to Ingomar High School Thursday to watch them take on the Falcons. At 4:30, junior high will start the games, and junior varsity and varsity games will follow.
Homecoming is approaching, themes are being discussed, and most excitingly, homecoming voting forms were sent out Friday morning! Many participants created fun flyers to encourage their classmates to vote for them for homecoming maid in hopes of landing a spot on the 2023 homecoming court.
The cheerleaders were constantly up and down the hallways and around town selling homecoming t-shirts and handing out order fords. Student council members are planning the intricate details that go into decorating the halls and the football field for the homecoming game. Everyone is on the edge of their seats, patiently waiting for the release of all the final details for the big week.
The Blue Devil football team once again fell short against North Pontotoc but will be back in action this Friday when they travel to Baldwyn High School. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. Two varsity players on our Water Valley High School football team, seniors Jaden Morgan and Will Embry, have been recognized by Farm Bureau as Defensive Players of the Week vs. Independence. Congratulations to these hard-working players!
The annual staff members are already on a roll with yearbook sales! The members are creating all kinds of thrilling promotions to get students excited and promote more annual sales. The yearbook is a unique photo gallery filled with some of the highlights of memorable moments throughout each student’s school year. The annual staff works overtime, ensuring to capture every event at Water Valley High!
