Donna Rae Hollowell
WATER VALLEY – Donna Rae Hollowell, age 88, of Water Valley passed away Sept. 6, 2023, at Yalobusha General Nursing Home.
Donna was born on Tuesday, January 22, 1935, in Taylor to the late Earl and Vada (Herring) Deckard. She lived in the Water Valley area for 40 years until work moved them to the West Point area for the next 40 years. She eventually came back to Water Valley, which was always her true home.
Donna was very family oriented, exploring her genealogy all the way back to Scotland, England and Germany. Reading was one of her many passions. She would read anything she could get her hands on including mystery novels and Native American novels. A goal of hers was to read an entire novel a day, which lead to 354 books being read on Amazon alone. She also enjoyed writings of the older Christian authors such as Charles Spurgeon.
Donna was also an artist who enjoyed painting and wood carving. She also studied history, both old world history and Christian history. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service was held Saturday, September 9 at Pine Crest Cemetery in Water Valley at 1 p.m. with Bro. Raymond Aven officiating.
Donna is survived by her son Kim (Diane) Hollowell of Water Valley; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and a host of bonus family member..
In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her husband Calvin Miles Hollowell, and her daughter Renee Gandy.
George Willie Stewart
MT. LIBERTY – George “Rooster” Willie Stewart, age 67, of Mt. Liberty Community in Calhoun County went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. He was surrounded by his family.
Rooster, as he was called by those who knew and loved him, was born May 13, 1956 in Lambert to the late George W. and Shirley (Russell) Stewart. He was a working man, spending his career operating equipment for Donvant Farms, Holloway Homes, and Carothers Construction until his health precluded him from working. He loved Jesus and his family, spending as much time with all of his children and grandchildren that he could. He was a beloved Christian, husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Visitation was held Friday, Sept. 8 in the Gardiner Room at Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until noon. Services immediately followed in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Bro. Grant Coffey officiating. Burial was in Turkey Creek Cemetery.
Rooster is survived by his wife of 31 years, Coyanna Stewart; three sons, Jonathan (Candace) Stewart, Steven E. Stewart, and Zachary (Laura) Stewart; one daughter, Natasha (Sonny) Rogers; four grandchildren, Destyne (Alan) Jaco, Gabriell Rogers, Jazmin Stewart, and Annabella Stewart; two great-grandchildren, Lillian and Emryn Jaco all of Water Valley; two brothers, Wesley (Lynn) Stewart of Tallahatchie County and Richard (Angie) Stewart of Water Valley; two sisters, Faye (Bill) Pryor of Water Valley and Wanda Gail (Larry) Tyler of Panola County; three sisters-in-law, Hazel Stewart of Bruce, Helan Stewart of Pearl and Cindy Stewart of Water Valley.
Rooster was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wade A. Stewart, Carl E. Stewart and George (Boy) Stewart; and one sister Georgia Ann Stewart.
