Blackmur Library Board of Trustees President Calvin Hawkins presents long-time library employee Donna Jones with a token of the board’s appreciation in honor of her retirement at a recent reception at the library.
WATER VALLEY – This week, an era at Blackmur Memorial Library came to an end with the retirement of long-time employee Donna Jones.
Jones has been a fixture at the library for many years. She started as a volunteer shortly after moving to Water Valley and proved to be a motivated and tireless supporter for the library. She soon moved into a part-time position and then later full time where she served for more than 16 years.
“Donna has been part of the library almost as long as I have,” Librarian Joseph Gurner said. “She’s been an integral part to everything we’ve done over the years and has a lot of close bonds with many of our long-time patrons. I know many of them will miss her being around as much as I will.”
During that time she became a familiar face to the library’s patrons and an integral part of the operation. When you have a small library with a small staff, everyone does everything and Jones was always up for the challenge.
“She’s been the first face most people see as soon as they walk in the library,” Gurner said. “It will be weird to not have Donna there after all these years, but her retirement is well deserved and we all wish her the best.”
The library had a send-off for Donna in which the members of the Board of Trustees thanked her for her years of service and Board President Calvin Hawkins presented her with a token of appreciation from the board and the library.
“We wish Donna the best as she undertakes this new chapter in her life. Her dedication to Blackmur Library will always be remembered and appreciated,” Gurner added.
