Jean Sivley Gillett
OAKLAND – Mrs. Jean Sivley Gillett, 91, of Oakland passed away Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford. She was born Jan. 10, 1932 to Abb Miles and Annie Lovelace Sivley.
Jean was a devoted homemaker and a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church near Oakland. She loved to travel and spend time with her friends and family. Jean possessed a sweet spirit and her kind, gentle ways that will long be remembered as her trademark qualities.
Family and friends gathered for visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 18 at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada. A graveside service immediately followed at the Oakland Cemetery. Rev. Courtney Selby officiated.
Survivors include her nephew, Ray (Marilyn) Haynes of Oakland; two great-nieces, Christy Haynes and Kathy Gahr; great-nephew, Kevin Hayne;s and her special life-long friend, Margaret Jean Ross.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William David Gillett, Sr.; son, William David “Bill” Gillett, Jr.; and a sister, Floy Sivley Haynes.
Pallbearers were Billy Ray Adams, David Odom, Mike Robinson, Rich Ross, Richard Ross and Tommy Ross.
Jonathan Cleve Peacock
WATER VALLEY – Jonathan Cleve Peacock, age 56, of Water Valley died unexpectedly at his home in Water Valley on Monday, Sept. 11, 2023. He was born June 23, 1967 in Memphis to Jimmy and Carolyn (Taylor) Peacock.
Jon attended Southern Baptist Educational Center and later graduated from University of Memphis where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. A degree in business carried Jon to happy years as he worked in the field of pharmaceuticals.
After the death of his family, he moved to Water Valley where he attended Woodland Hills Baptist Church. He worked for Servpro, but the best part of his day was going home and being entertained by his beloved dog, Luke.
Although his interest of music was diversified, he loved playing the guitar and even composing some music. Jon demonstrated his love for the Lord with a sweet spirit and his generosity was spread to many.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Sept. 23, in the Henry Chapel at Seven Oaks Funeral Home at 11 am, Bro. Brennan Allen officiated. A private burial for the family followed.
Jon is survived by a host of cousins and friends who loved him.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy Cleve Peacock and Carolyn Jo (Taylor) Peacock; his brother James Clayton Peacock; and his aunt Gloria Gay (Peacock) Flora.

Zachary Kyle Taylor
WATER VALLEY – Zachary Kyle Taylor, a beloved son, grandson, and friend, passed away on September 11, 2023, in Water Valley at the age of 33. He was born October 27, 1989, in Oxford to Scoot and Shellie (Eubanks) Taylor. Zachary brought immense joy and love to those around him throughout his life.
He began his education in the South Panola school system and later transferred to Water Valley where he excelled in his studies. After graduation his career path had him working first at Valley Tool in Water Valley and then Old Time Pest Control where he formed many friendships. He loved hunting, fishing and riding four-wheelers. But nothing compared to the joy he found in watching Mississippi State and Dallas Cowboys. Zach was also a member of Sylva Rena Baptist Church where he was saved and baptized by Rev. Hal Clark.
Visitation was held Thursday, Sept. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Seven Oaks Funeral Home. The funeral service was held Friday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m. at Seven Oaks Funeral Home.
Zach’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved and knew him. He is survived by his daughter, Harper Taylor of Sardis; his parents, Scoot and Shellie Taylor; one sister, Audrey (Wade) Bishop; two nieces, Scarlett and Taylor Bishop of Water Valley; paternal grandparents Glynn Taylor of Courtland and Marty Vannoy (Gordon) of Pensacola, Fla.; maternal grandparents Ronnie and Margaret Eubanks of Water Valley; one uncle, Bubba (Lauren) Eubanks; one aunt, Melissa (Chad) Kimzey; a significant friend, Bianca Guzman of Water Valley; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
