Santa isn’t the only one with a list. Elf Jessica (Richardson) is getting ready for Holiday Open House and double checking all the stores she plans to visit.
Santa is very busy making his list and checking it twice. I have it on good authority that some of his shopping this year will be done during Water Valley’s Business Holiday Open House. The jolly ol’ gent was so pleased with last year’s purchases that this year he is sending not one but two of his favorite elves to check out the goings on.
That date is Saturday, November 11 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season with friends and family and enjoy food, music, shopping and free prizes to the lucky winners. Todd Hughes will have two food trucks – one by the Magnolia trees in Railroad Park and the other on Railroad Street close the to Wood Street. There will be music on the Railroad Park Pavilion from 10 until 3.
To date the participating businesses are: All Things Piano, Backtrack Antiques & Gifts, BTC Old-Fashioned Grocery, Chopsticks, Courthouse Coffee, El Charitto, GG’s Flowers & Gifts, Hometown Pizza, Larson’s Cash Saver, Midtown Auto Parts, Mulberry Lane, Rebel, Sartain’s Home and Auto, South Main Boutique, The Blue Melon Rendevous, The Magnolia Coffee House, The Nutrition Spot on Central, Turnage Drug Store, Valley Lumber and Valley Agri-Supply. A variety of prizes are offered this year: pottery, different kinds of gift certificates, an electric heater, art, a French press, a garden sprayer and more.
“If your business would like to take part in our Holiday Open House, please contact me this week,” says Chamber Manger Zandra Walker.
If you are new to the Valley and haven’t participated before here is how if works. Shoppers register at participating local businesses for this great variety of door prizes. Names are drawn for winners at each business, then at the end of the afternoon at 3 p.m. all the entries are gathered and one very lucky person will win the grand prize, a $500 gift certificate, provided by the Chamber of Commerce. This certificate may be used for holiday shopping at any Chamber member business in Water Valley.
“Our local merchants are the heart of Water Valley,” says Tonya Eubanks, President of the Chamber of Commerce. “Our Holiday Open House gives everyone the opportunity to come together to celebrate the season and support our hometown businesses.”
Also a quick update on this year’s Christmas Parade. The date is December 1 and the theme is “Magical Winter Nights.” Applications will be sent to last year’s participants. If you would like an application they can be picked up at the Chamber of Commerce office or contact Zandra Walker by email at wvchamber@bellsouth.net.
Last year’s overall winner was Mechanics Bank+ BankFirst and they will be in charge of Santa’s float this year. I am sure the elves will be reporting back on that, too.
The Chamber and Water Valley’s business community wants to help you make this a stress free holiday season and a Christmas to remember.
