Dorothy Nell Cain-Brown
MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – Dorothy Nell Cain-Brown, a beloved wife, devoted mother and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2023, in Milwaukee, Wisc. She was born on August 28, 1950, in McComb to her loving mother, Vernell Smith, and late father J.C. Wilkinson.
Dorothy’s legacy will forever be remembered by her family and friends. She leaves behind her adoring husband, Marcus Brown, who shared a deep and unwavering love with her. Since meeting in 1978, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and joy, and later committing to their bond in holy matrimony in 2011. Dorothy will also be remembered by three children; 10 brothers and sisters; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and numerous friends.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her father, J.C Wilkinson; one daughter, Nikita Cain; one son, Junebug Cain; and one brother, Jessie Wilkinson.
Throughout her life, Dorothy found great joy in various hobbies and cherished moments spent with her loved ones. She had a green thumb and found solace in working with flowers and tending to her yard. She had an exquisite taste for fashion, always embracing the opportunity to shop for new treasures. Traveling allowed her and Marcus to explore new places and create lasting memories. Dorothy’s warm and compassionate nature extended beyond her immediate circle, and she genuinely valued her relationships.
Professionally, Dorothy excelled as a supervisor in the civil government sector, working diligently for Milwaukee County until her retirement. Her dedication and commitment to her work were evident in the lives she impacted and the positive changes she implemented within her community.
A wake will be held Friday, October 27 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Gardiner Room at Seven Oaks Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow on October 28 at 11 a.m. at Bayson Chapel M.B. Church with Rev Amos Sims officiating. James Brown, Gregory Brown, Oliver Brown, Lamar Smith, Ronald Burgess, and Hubbard Burgess will serve as pallbearers.
Gloria Darlene Lyles
TILLATOBA – Gloria Darlene Lyles, age 62, of Tillatoba passed away suddenly on October 12, 2023. She was born on February 28, 1961, in Memphis. Gloria loved and valued spending time with her children and grandchildren, passing the days by smiling and laughing with them. She also enjoyed crocheting, as well as playing darts and pool.
Gloria is survived by her three children, Jessica Thorpe (Kevin) of Covington, Tenn.; Latosha Lyles of Meridian and Timothy (Michelle) Lyles of Tillatoba; 10 grandchildren, Jace Hixson, Devon Lyles, Braden Thorpe, Ethan Thorpe, Kaydance Lyles, Konner Lyles, Issac Elmore, Ethan Lyles, Evan Lyles and Gabriel Lyles; one sister, Dorthy Burkeen of the Waterford community; one brother, Michael Blevins of Memphis; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and dear friends.
Preceding her in death are her mother, Ruby Blevins and step-father Allen Blevins, of Memphis; her husband, Richard Lyles; and a grandson, Zachary Lyles-McWhorter. Gloria was truly cherished by everyone who knew her and she will be deeply missed.
