Junior Auxiliary hosted the 2023 Valley Dash Turkey Thunder Run 5K Run/Walk last weekend through downtown Water Valley. More than 50 5K runners and 3K walkers came out to support this benefit and raise money for the children of Yalobusha County.
In the men’s division, first place went to Ayden Winters, second place to Tom Kirkpatrick and third place to Kylon Winters. In the women’s division, first place went to Whitney Crow (who crossed the finish line carrying a child on her back!), second place to Katherine Montague and third place to Camille Breckenridge.
Winners of the JA fun awards went to Ashley Blakely for the Fastest Stroller Award, Whitney Crow for the Most Festive Award, and Barron Dudley for the Youngest Runner Award. Barron Dudley also designed the artwork that was featured on the front of each race participant’s shirt. Congratulations to everyone that participated!

A special thanks goes out to the street department and the Water Valley Police officers that made this run possible. Thanks also to our run sponsors: Black & Associates, Endurance Physical Therapy, Magnolia Coffee Co, R&R Cookies, Turnage Drug Store, Davis Tool & Die, Kirk Auto Group, Midtown Auto Parts, Renasant Bank, Scrubs & Co, Dermatology Associates of Oxford, Little Professionals, Rilee Logsdon Construction, Pressure Washing & Line Stripping, LLC, and Sky Mart.
As the holiday season nears, it’s time to register for the JA Project Santa Angel Tree! Teach your own children and grandchildren that it is better to give than receive by adopting an angel this season. You can select the gender and age of a child and we will send you their Christmas wish list for you to shop. These are children that otherwise will not receive any Christmas gifts.

Winners in the Junior Auxiliary’s Valley Dash women’s division were (from left) Whitney Crow (first), Kathrine Montague (second) and Camille Breckenridge (third).
To adopt an angel, visit the Junior Auxiliary of Water Valley Facebook page to sign up. To sign up offline, touch base with a JA member and they will help get you signed up. In-person signups are also available at Magnolia Coffee Co. The deadline to adopt an angel is November 27 and all gifts must be dropped off to JA by December 3.
We cannot make this very special project happen without the generous support of our community! If you would like to make a monetary donation, please contact a JA member.
Several JA members were seen this fall on the fields at the Crawford Complex coaching fall soccer. Our members spent many hours coaching and mentoring children ranging from 3-12 years old. If you are interested in being a coach or supporting the sports teams at Crawford, be sure to reach out to the Water Valley Parks and Recreation!
Don’t miss your chance to enter to win a stunning handcrafted cypress live edge table this season. The table, which perfectly blends natural elegance with modern design, was built and donated by none other than the talented Dalton Higdon.
All proceeds from your raffle ticket purchase will benefit children in our county. Ticket price is $5 for one entry or $20 for five entries. Visit the JA Facebook page to view this beautiful table and contact a JA member to purchase a raffle ticket. Payment methods are paypal, cash or check. Payment must be received by December 14, and the drawing will be held on Friday, December 15.
