WATER VALLEY – A former art teacher at Water Valley High School was arrested and charged with child exploitation and enticement of a child. District Attorney Jay Hale reported Emily Swinkowski, 27, was arrested and charged on Nov. 6 by officers with the Water Valley Police Department.
Hale reported that the Water Valley Police Department launched an investigation approximately two weeks prior to the arrest after allegations surfaced that she sent inappropriate photos to a 16 year-old student at the high school. He explained that another student found out what happened and informed the principal, who reached out to local police.
Hale also reported the defendant could face additional charges once the case is presented to the Yalobusha County Grand Jury.
Swinkowski was a first-year teacher at the Water Valley School District. She has resigned from the district and was released on a $50,000 bond.
“This office has been advised that several students were interviewed as part of an internal inquiry by the Water Valley School District,” Hale reported. “These interviews were not initiated by law enforcement officials nor were they conducted pursuant to the ongoing criminal investigation.”
