Veterans Delmer Weeks, William Craddock, Leonard Jenkins and Anthony Way were honored Thursday at the Water Valley Housing Authority in observance of Veteran’s Day. Staff members at the housing authority served refreshments and presented gifts, and the honorees shared memories from their time of service.
Weeks served as an engineer in the U.S. Army where he fought in the Vietnam War in 1968 and 1969. He was honorably discharged as an E-4. As a resident at the housing authority, he enjoys going to the VFW and seeing friends.
Craddock served 13 years as a Navy Seabee (United States Naval Construction Battalion) from 1962 to 1964, serving in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged with the rank of E-7, chief petty office, and received two Purple Hearts. After his military service, Craddock served 18-plus years a deputy sheriff in Chicago. As a housing authority resident, he enjoys sitting on his porch and enjoying the outdoors.
Jenkins served in the U.S. Air Force from 1974-1975 as a first-class security police. After being honorably discharged, Jenkins worked in security for 14 years. As a housing authority resident, Jenkins enjoys spending time with his wife, Joyce, and cooking out.
Way served as an electrician for 24 years with the Mississippi Army National Guard and deployed to Iraq in 2003 and 2004. He was honorably discharged in 2014. Way works at the Water Valley Housing Authority as a maintenance mechanic, specializing in electrical work. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Becky, and family.
“The staff thoroughly enjoyed being able to serve these men, honoring them for their sacrifices and selfless acts of service for our county,” reported Symba Owens from the housing authority.
