The Blue Devils were counting down the dayslast week as Thanksgiving break was right around the corner! Students were having classroom parties to celebrate, teachers were having Thanksgiving lunches and overall, everyone was excited about the week-long break!
The teachers and faculty decided to host a Thanksgiving lunch and call it “Friendsgiving.” Teachers planned this lunch all week, ensuring that it would be extravagant. All of the teachers and faculty made a list filled with their finest dishes, homemade recipes, and yummy snacks and accumulated a whole table of Thanksgiving food.
It was a fun time for all of the teachers to gather and bond over the love of not only food but also the years of friendship they have created. Our teachers and staff know that no matter what they experience or go through in life, they will always have a friend to turn to, whether it is in the classroom beside them or down the hall. A friend is never far from Water Valley High!
Students even joined in on their festivities by having their very own classroom parties to celebrate the occasion.
Aside from all of the Thanksgiving enjoyment, the powerlifting team is back in action! After months of hard work in the off-season and the beginning of strenuous after-school workouts, it all paid off. The Lady Devils powerlifting team traveled to Bruce High School to compete at the invitational. There was stiff competition with three other teams competition in the lift. T

The Lady Devils powerlifting team is back in action with their first meet of the season! Medalists were (from left) Kara Boyle, third place; Mya Harden, second place; Raven Scroggins, first place; Bethany Pryor, first place; Abby Ingram, third place; and Linda Norwood, third place.
The Lady Devils did not place overall as a team, there were six lifters who medaled in their weight class: Kara Boyle, third place; Mya Harden, second place; Bethany Pryor, first place; Abby Ingram, third place; and Linda Norwood, third place. Congratulations to the Lady Devils Powerlifting team!
Mark your calendars for the annual “North Swole” invitational powerlifting meet on December 15, and the boy’s first meet is scheduled December 16.
The “North Swole” meets are held during the month of December and are a festive way for the powerlifting teams to host a Christmas charity event.
Head Coach Vaughn Daniels makes sure to emphasize the significance of giving back to the community. Typically, in order to enter any powerlifting meet, a team is required to pay an entry fee. Coach does it different with the Water Valley North Swole meet.
Our team asks that each visiting team bring a gift from each lifter in place of an entry fee.
Why, you might ask;
For each toy that is collected, the Blue Devils lifters make a special trip to the elementary school to pass out the toys to the children just before Christmas. Last year, the team donated 150 gifts to the students and we are hoping to double that number this year. Come out and show your support, as these lifters are just opening their season!
As the week before the holidays was winding down, Water Valley High was making a de-LIGHT-ful transformation. Some may say, “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas,” and I couldn’t agree any less! Agriculture C.T.E. students accompanied faculty to help set up and decorate the Blue Devil Christmas tree. Each year, it is placed in the front lobby for all students and visitors to enjoy when they enter into the school. When the Christmas tree goes up, the atmosphere at Water Valley High changes. There is nothing like walking into school and seeing the beautifully decorated tree. During this time of year, spirits are high, rooms are beginning to be decorated, and the Christmas festivities are about to get started. Thanksgiving and Christmas are by far the best times of the entire year!
This completes the weekly update from “Inside the Blue and White.” I hope all of you have a Turkey-filled week, and check back in next week to stay up to date on the upcoming events at Water Valley High and just how delightful the Blue Devils’ week off from school went!
