WATER VALLEY – A 22 year-old Yalobusha man was charged with molesting and sexual battery of a child. Sheriff Jerimaine Gooch reported that Calin Drane was arrested on Dec. 6 following a brief investigation.
“We had enough probable cause to issue an arrest warrant for him on these charges,” Gooch added.
The sheriff also reported that Drane turned himself in to deputies. Drane had been employed at Davidson Elementary School. Gooch said the allegations do not involve a student enrolled in the Water Valley School District.
“The alleged incidents did not occur at the school or on school grounds, and the victim was not a student at the local school,” Gooch noted.
Drane was booked in the Yalobusha County Detention Center and was released on a $50,000 bond.
“We appreciate the assistance from the Water Valley Police Department and from officials at the Water Valley School District during this investigation,” Gooch added.
Other activity reported by the sheriff includes:
• Randy Cato of Enid was arrested on Nov. 6 in northwest Yalobusha County and charged with burglary, robbery, two counts of domestic assault and malicious mischief.
Cato allegedly broke into a relative’s home and stole two cell phones. An altercation ensued and he assaulted the occupants and destroyed one of the phones, throwing it to the ground.
“The phone burst into flames upon impact. We had to raise the windows and use a fan to get the smoke out of the house,” Gooch said.
Cato barricaded himself inside the residence when authorities arrived. Chief
Deputy Thomas West and deputy Taylor Byford were able to talk to Cato and take him into custody without an altercation.
• Patricia Barton Bennett was arrested for motor vehicle theft on Nov. 3. Bennett allegedly stole a vehicle on County Road 211 and was arrested at her house a short time later.
• Michael Morgan of Water Valley was arrested for aggravated assault on October 29. Morgan allegedly struck someone in the head with a dumbbell.
• Deautra Jones of Tillatoba was arrested on October 28 for an outstanding warrant for an indictment for accessory after the fact on an burglary that occurred years earlier.
“We had been looking for him for years,” West reported.
