The Town of Oakland officially cut the ribbon on its new pickleball court on Friday, Dec. 8. Participating in the ribbon cutting were (from left) Coach Carol Ross, Linda Ross Aldy, Luanne Taylor Brooks, Mayor James R. Swearengen, Cliff Craven, Chamber President and Ajinomoto General Manager Allen Welch, Justice Court Judge Janet Ross Caulder, Chamber Board Member Mike Robinson, and Gay Lynn Haynes. The project was funded in part by a $25,000 grant from AARP. Aldy wrote the grant and Robinson was the project oversight manager.
OAKLAND – The Oakland Christmas parade and Christmas concert were postponed due to inclement weather and are rescheduled for Saturday, Dec. 16. The parade starts at 3 p.m., followed by visits with Santa on the grounds of the Oakland Public Library. The the Christmas Concert begins at 4 p.m. featuring Oakland native Chuckie Moore and Gay Lynn Haynes, who adopted Oakland as her hometown in 2020.
Other events scheduled as part of Oakland’s Down Home Christmas were held last weekend and included ribbon cuttings for the new pickleball court and Down Home Sweets, along with a Christmas brunch (see page 3).
Coffeeville’s Christmas parade is also scheduled Saturday, Dec. 16. Line-up begins at 4 p.m. and the parade will roll at 5 p.m. Trophies will be presented to first, second and third place winners.
