Ray Bell

TILLATOBA – Ray Bell, Jr., of Tillatoba passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at his residence. He was 89.

Ray was born August 14, 1934 in Oklahoma to Ray Bell, Sr. and Lilly Vesta Payne Bell. He worked as a farmer for a number of years and later retired as a truck driver after working many years for Lewis Grocery/SuperValu. He was a skilled “handyman” and was blessed with the ability to fix almost anything. He enjoyed worshiping and the fellowship he had with other believers at Tillatoba Baptist Church. While working in his yard and traveling were among the many things he enjoyed, spending time with his beloved family was what he enjoyed most.

Family and friends gathered for visitation on Monday, December 11, at the Tillatoba Baptist Church. A graveside service followed at Union Cemetery with Rev. Rickey Harris officiating. McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his daughter, Deborah (Tommy) McCool of Tillatoba; a son, Ronald (Elisa) Bell of Oklahoma City, Okla.; four grandchildren, Michael Merrill, Angela Dukes, Christopher McCool and Kimberly Beavers; nine great-grandchildren, Victoria Merrill, Nicholas Merrill, Veronica Chambers, P.J. and Allison Dukes, Hunter and Hayden McCool and Caitlyn and Hannah Beavers; and one great-great-grandchild, Isabelle Chambers.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Opal Bell; a daughter, Karen Merrill; a son, Thomas Ray Bell; his sister, Eula Andrews and brothers, Fred, Cecil, Gus and Paul Cantrell.

Raymond D. Campbell

WATER VALLEY – Raymond D. Campbell, 72, passed away at his home on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023. He was born on October 3, 1951, in Maricopa, Az. to the late Raymond Dexter Campbell and Ellis Lorraine King.

Raymond was a graduate of Lafayette High School and spent many years working as a machine operator for Endevco. He was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Raymond Campbell also enjoyed bingo, fishing, hunting, riding his four wheeler and operating heavy machines. He will truly be missed by his family and friends.

He leaves three sons, Raymond Campbell Jr, Donovan Pryor and Christopher Cade, all of Water Valley; five daughters, Coy’Anna Stewart, Connie Campbell, Brittany Jones, all of Water Valley, Rosamond King of Oxford and Sherry Briggs of Florida. Raymond also leaves one brother, Jerry Campbell, of Tennessee and one sister, Charlotte Jeffus, of Texas; 19 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date Walker Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Freddie Phillips, Jr.

WATER VALLEY – Mr. Freddie Phillips, Jr., was born November 9, 1959, in Water Valley, Mississippi, to the late Hazel Mae and Freddie Phillips, Sr. He was educated in the Water Valley School District, and played basketball for Water Valley High School.

Freddie, Jr., confessed his faith in Christ at an early age at Green Goshen CME Church under the leadership of Rev. Alan Sims. He was united in holy matrimony to Bobbie Telford on August 8, 1984, and to this union a daughter, Dafanie, was born.

Freddie, Jr., was employed with Farrell Construction for over 24 years and retired in October of 2018. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family. On July 3rd, 2020, his little angel, Joye Lynn-Nubia Ellis, was born and the two became inseparable.

On Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Baptist Hospital/Desoto, Freddie Phillips, Jr., went home to be with the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife: Bobbie Phillips; two daughters: Dafanie (Cecil) Ellis and Jessica Grisby; son: Sidney Williams; granddaughter: Joye Lynn-Nubia Ellis; five sisters: Mary (Franklin) Rockette, Georgia (Tommie) Barry, Margaret Bradford, Linda (Henry) Johnson, and Carla (Rodney) Baskin; one brother: Rev. Michael (Sherry) Phillips; six sisters-in-law: Helen Gooch, Shirley (Charles) Sims, Lula (Johnny) Caldwell and Patsy (Rod) McCloud, Vernita Jones Phillips and Lisa Stokes; three brothers-in-law: Wilton (Martha) Telford, George (Jane) Telford and John Eddie Telford; he also leaves two special uncles: Raymond (Ora) Phillips and James (Mary) Phillips and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends whom he shared special bonds.

Freddie Jr. was not only preceded in death by his parents Hazel and Freddie Phillips Sr., he was also preceded in death by two brothers: Russell Phillips and James Marshall Phillips, and his niece: Freddye Baskin.

WATER VALLEY – Grace Moody of Water Valley passed away on Dec 1, 2023.

A wake is planned for Friday, December 8, 2023, in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 9 until 11 a.m. Services will immediately follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Michael Phillips officiating. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the cemetery maintenance fund at Oak Grove CME Church, P. O. Box 507, Water Valley, MS 38965.
