The consensus among parade attendees was unanimous: this year’s Water Valley Christmas Parade was the best ever. The lively event showcased a vibrant mix of entertainment, including a spirited marching band, a talented dance group, dazzling floats, decked-out golf carts and, of course, a much-anticipated appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus. The joy and excitement on the faces of the spectators were undeniable. Boasting over one hundred entries and drawing an excited crowd, it not only ranked among the largest but also stood out as one of the most joyful celebrations.
Angie Hodge and Raymond Hawkins took on the role of emcees, adding their knowledge and charm to the festivities, while Josh Howell orchestrated the first-ever live stream of the parade – including drone coverage. This proved to be a major success, particularly for those unable to attend in person. The broadcast was also shared on the Chamber’s Facebook page, allowing viewers to relive the magic.
Yalobusha Health Services took the grand prize honors with a dazzling display that truly brought enchantment and magic to Magical Winter Nights. Other winners included Best Float – Business, Oxford Healthcare Management; Best Float – Church/ Religious, Woodland Hills Baptist Church; Best Float – Education/School; Northwest Community College-Surgical Tech; Best Vintage Vehicle- Brady Hill, Ethan Hyde and Sandy Haynes; Best Decorated Vehicle – Warren Tree Services; and Best Performance – Main Stage Dance.
In addition to her duties as Chamber president this year, Tonya Eubanks took on the responsibility of overseeing the parade for the third consecutive year. The extensive work carried out behind the scenes by Tonya, the Chamber Board, and all participants is genuinely impressive. A round of applause is well-deserved for each person and every civic organization who generously dedicates their time and skills, spreading the holiday spirit throughout the Valley.
Continuing the Chamber’s holiday schedule was the celebration of Christmas in the Valley. Despite the damp weather, the festive atmosphere reached unprecedented heights as Christmas in the Valley filled the air with joy. The streets were lined with cars, sidewalks bustling with activity, live music resonated from the Pocket Park, and stores were lively with shoppers finding the perfect gift while enjoying cookies distributed by Water Valley Main Street as part of the Cookie Stroll.
Illuminated carriages, pulled by horses, trotted along, and the alluring scent of delicious food wafted through the air. Santa and Mrs. Claus, graciously hosted by the Junior Auxiliary of Water Valley, took a break from their hectic
Christmas schedule to take photos with the children, creating an unforgettable evening. To add the perfect finishing touch, snowfall arrived precisely as forecasted by the Chamber Elf and Frosty, further elevating the enchanting holiday atmosphere of the event.
On Sunday, the warm hospitality, charming decorations, and festive atmosphere of the Christmas Tour of Homes captivated everyone. Featured on the tour this year were the homes of Matt and Megan Patton, Joe and Kathryn York, Lloyd and Caroline Caulfield, Will Cook and Coulter Fussell, and Cliff and Leigh Johnson.
At every site, a Chamber board member and the homeowners warmly welcomed guests. They offered details about distinctive decorations and shared insights about their homes. Each charming residence expressed the essence of the season uniquely, providing a warm and inviting backdrop for a delightful Christmas celebration.
In case you couldn’t personally tour the homes, a variety of photographs from each residence will be shared on the Chamber’s Facebook pages. Additionally, you’ll find pictures and details about each home in the special Christmas section of the Herald.
Thank you to everyone for your support of the Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas events and your continuing support of the Water Valley business community! Let’s celebrate the spirit of the season and make this Christmas unforgettable by choosing to shop local.
