Special Election For Mayor Will Be Feb. 13

Donald Gray presided over a final meeting as mayor on December 5. He resigned at the end of December to take office as Chancery Clerk.

WATER VALLEY – A special election for mayor is scheduled for Tuesday Feb. 13. Aldermen approved the date during Tuesday night’s monthly meeting after declaring a vacancy in the office. Former Mayor Donald Gray tendered his resignation last month as he prepared to take office as Chancery Clerk.

The deadline to qualify is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24. Candidates qualify by petition signed by not less than 50 qualified electors in the City of Water Valley. There is no qualifying fee and candidates do not run on a party affiliation in the special election. The winner of the election will serve the remainder of the four-year term that ends June 30, 2025.

Alderman-at-large Herbie Rogers is serving as Mayor Pro Tem until the new mayor is elected.
