John Henderson

WATER VALLEY – John Watty Henderson, husband, step-father, grandfather and great-grandfather died at age 64 at his residence in Water Valley on Sunday, January 14. He was born on April 14, 1959 to B.W. and Mary Henderson.

John was the owner of Water Valley Cleaners and Water Valley Shoe Repair. He enjoyed working with wood crafts and was a fan of MSU Bulldogs. John was a member of First Baptist Church of Water Valley.

John is survived by his wife, Alice Henderson; his step-daughter, Beth (Josh) Hood; two grandsons, Joey (Kandi) Hood, Andy Hood; one great-granddaughter, Olivia Hood; one brother, Danny Henderson; three nieces, Dana, Tiffany, and Faith. John was preceded in death by his parents, B.W. and Mary Henderson.

The funeral service was held Monday, January 22, at Seven Oaks Funeral Home.

Christopher Paul Ostander

WATER VALLEY – Christopher Paul Ostrander, affectionately known as “Critter” to his friends, departed this life on January 14, 2024 at his home in Water Valley.

Chris was born May 5, 1965 in Paris, Tenn. to Ronald and Jessie Ostrander. Later he moved with his family to Water Valley, where Chris attended Water Valley High School and was a member of the annual staff. He graduated in 1983 and continued his education at Northwest Community College where he earned an Associates Degree. He worked maintenance for a major hotel chain in Memphis for a few years before coming back to Water Valley to work at Borg Warner. He worked at BorgWarner until his health declined.

After returning to Water Valley he reacquainted with, and soon married, the love of his life, Rhonda. Their blended family provided some of the happiest times of his life.

Chris loved life and had many hobbies over the years. He enjoyed fishing, music, and playing cards with the guys at the American Legion Hut. He also liked tinkering with his truck and more recently he had a real flair for on-line auctions. His quick wit, great sense of humor and infectious laugh will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

He leaves to cherish his memory four daughters, Jessica Faxon of Water Valley, Christina (Neil) Taylor of Oxford, Dawn (Dusty) Daugherty and Jennifer Mack, both of Senatobia; five grandchildren, Samantha Faxon, Makenzie Daugherty, Jaxon Johnson, Raiden Taylor and Joseph Taylor; one brother, Terry (Terri) Ostrander of Enid; and one brother-in-law Billy (Emily) Childs of Water Valley. He also survived by his faithful companion Murphy Dawg Ostrander.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rhonda Jean Ostrander. The family will have a graveside service at a later date.

Fredde Nail Young

WATER VALLEY – Fredde “Dee” Nail Young, age 80, passed away to her Eternal Home on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Yalobusha General Hospital in Water Valley surrounded by her family, staff, and friends.

Born in Oxford on September 6, 1943, Dee was the daughter of the late Ned and Model “Sis” Nail. After graduating from Ole Miss with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, she was employed at several places in Tennessee. She then moved to Mississippi and embarked on a successful career, working for Baker Trucking Co. and Brownie Crawford and Associates, both in Water Valley.

Dee was humble, thoughtful, loving, always prioritizing time with family and friends. Later in life and after retiring, she had a passion for crocheting scarves, potholders, and dish rags, which are a part of Fredde that will remain treasured possessions for many residents of Yalobusha County. She also greatly enjoyed photography and art.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Water Valley. She held strong to her faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. For many of her last years, she was not able to get our and attend her church, but the highlight of her week was when the kids from church would come by her house to sing and pray with her.

Fredde is survived by two nieces, Jean Dodds and Patsy Simmons. She is also survived by many cousins, friends and the entire Brownie Crawford Family who held a very special place in her life.

Fredde was preceded in death by her parents, Ned Nail and Model “Sis” Baggett Nail; and one brother; William Esker Nail.
A memorial service and internment will be held Pine Flat Cemetery in Oxford. The dates and times for these events are yet to be determined.
